We’ve just witnessed one of the best last minute goals in England history 20:46 - Jun 30 with 2530 viewsunstableblue

But the focus (perhaps rightly?!) is that we are rubbish

That Bellingham goal was amazing! And it kept us in the tournament

I think the Toney chance of taken would have everyone in a different state of mind!

Not at all, we were shte, the manager made 1 change to the lineup despite before the previous game saying players were knackered and then too only making 1 change to that lineup so it wasn't a suprise to see us play so badly.

Now we won, great, but when bellingham is given MOTM because he scored a 95th minute goal it's a joke, he was dreadful for the rest of the game.

IF we were scotland, absolutely, take any win you can get. But this is England, players on hundreds of thousands a week and playing like theyre the underdogs. It's actually embarrasing how bad this tournament has been for us in a performance level.

Nice goal but it was our first shot on target in the 95th min, we deserved to go out and had no idea how to break down Slovakia for all but 3 mins of the game.

We do not look right at all, and haven’t for some time. Best attacking options in the tournement and we look the most toothless.

The only Muff in Town.

Laurie got closer to making a save than the Slovakian keeper.

Did we hit the post twice or was I dreaming?

Look we’re poor at the moment…. Just not enough speed of pass, thought and energy

But it’s mainly a confidence thing - and this negativity that is EVERYWHERE is a concern

We’ve just scored one of the best last minute winner in England history and the feedback loop to the player - “you’re feckin sh!t”

I think a couple of moments of quality from two world class players have masked the obvious underlying issues. Once again the players have carried the coach and we got through in spite of Southgate, not because of him.

We have no left back.

We are struggling to create chances against weak (albeit wel organised) opposition. It’s hard to see how we are going to break down any better teams.

The walking with the ball is ridiculous. We need someone to drive the ball forward as we see from Morsy, and even Woolfie from defence.

Foden and Saka seem to have lost the ability to beat their man, but GS is reluctant to mix things up.

Through balls are going out for goal kicks because nobody is running on to them.

Apart from that, we look great haha.

It wasn't a winner it was an equaliser

We hit the post once, which isn't on target

Why are these players short on confidence? most have had excellent seasons for their clubs if they didn't then why are they there?

It's pretty obvious what our problems are and they aren't being sorted

We're playing to deep, rice is as mobile as douglas, offering no out ball to our defenders,
mainoo.. the reason he looked brilliant when he came on last game was he was the advanced cm and was helping the likes of palmer on the right, this game, for some unknown reason, he was playing the trent version of a cm and sitting next to rice, again offering no out ball for the defenders.

We have no left footed left back which brings a host of problems, but also we have walker and saka not working together on the right, saka isn't making any forward runs off the ball to enable walker to clip a ball over the top, or to push forward into spaces as saka is tight to the halfway line.

our attackers are static when we are in transition, Kane and bellingham spending most their time dropping to halfway line, so we can't progress forwards.

Then when we do advance, we are static, again not a confidence thing, just no off the ball movement to offer ourselves for the ball, it becomes man city like tippy tappy around the box, but we don't end up getting it into the box, it goes back to pickford.

Like i said above, we aren't underdogs, but we're playing like them, and it's not right.

We're at that stage in Southgate's England career. It was the same with Sir Bob at the end, the haters were out in force and had a field day. Some of the things said about Sir Bob went way beyond acceptable.
I got it, most England fans never want Robson, they wanted Clough. What did they say when Robson was first appointed; England had a choice of an habitual winner with Clough or an habitual runner up with Robson and England went with the runner up option. Those fans were never going to let it go, and their hate only increased, and even if Robson had won a WC by winning every game 6-0, it wouldn't make any difference.
OK, I accept England wasn't great under Robson, the 88 Euros were probably the worst performance by England at any tournament, but once England fans turn it's only going one way.

It’s more that we’re clueless, lethargic, and create very very little. We’ve played four average teams and we don’t look better than any of them.

David Platt’s “and England have won it in the last minute of extra time” meant more.

It’s a bit of a shame that goal’s got lost in the reaction to the performance. It deserves some more love.

It’s kind of that mentality that presided over mediocrity for so many years in the Championship. We were consistently and constantly told that we should be grateful for what we had and we didn’t know better even though we were served dross. Individual moments of brilliance shouldn’t paper over abject failure.

Score an injury time overhead equaliser against Spain, France, Germany etc. and you're an instant legend

Do the same against Slovakia and people will rightly focus on the parts of the game we were rubbish in

This was like Iceland 2016 but bailed out by a moment of magic. The FA is nowhere near cool enough to do this but we should've sacked Gareth after the group stage because we look so uninspired and beatable.
