Incredible fee. No way he's worth that.

Poll: Has our squad been improved this summer?

Well they ain’t getting that much. I like him, as does McKenna, but it’s a gamble that he’s even ready for the Prem.

Just be aware that we've paid £20m for a similar player.

If we feel that Hutch can make an impact, then no reason why Delap wouldn't either.

Delap has had more league experience than Hutch and (IMHO) his goal return last season underplays how effective he is.

I'm not saying we should pay £20m but I don't think that is an unrealistic valuation for a player, if you make comparisons to Hutch (albeit they are playing different positions).

Ade Akinbiyi couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo...
Poll: As things stand, how confident are you we will get promoted this season?

Difference for me is that Delap has already been out to Stoke, Preston and Hull without exactly setting the world alight. Hutchinson came here on his first ever loan and scored 10 goals and 4 assists, hitting the ground running.

Like I say, Delap has potential, but bringing him straight to the Prem is a gamble in itself when he’s not exactly been clinical in the Championship.

The fact that he has played more football (IMHO) is a plus and works for him.

8 goals as a 21 year old striker in the Champ isn't a bad return - we well know that whilst goals are important - our lone striker needs to deliver a lot more than just that.

Hirsts return was 7 in a similar number of matches. Yet, with Hirst playing we are (almost) a different team. So, remember, it isn't just about 'goals'. For me, this is where Delap (with a return of 8) is mis understood, his overall game is really rather good and would fit really well into our system and style of play.

Completely agree re his style suiting us, the fact he can play from the right makes it even more attractive, I just can’t see anybody paying £20M, but we’ll see. I reckon around £12M with add ons gets it done.

Could well be right. Rumours were that Chelsea 'wanted' £30m for Hutchinson, which turned out to be ~£18m plus top ups

Just their starting point. They want £20M, club A offers £10M, Man City scoff, club A offers £12M, Man City say come back with a bid of £17M and club A offers offers £15M and they agree on £16M plus a percentage of profit from any future sale.

I really like Delap, techincally excellent, powerful and really good ball control on the turn.

Pity we have only been tentatively linked and Phil shot down the last rumour with us and Delap.

Less output than Cameron Archer the season before in more games. I can't see them getting that.

On a separate note, just seen that he's likely going back to Villa.

He's perfect for the way we play and the like for like replacement for Hirst that we need. However, he's no better than Hirst, and for that money, you would want a significant upgrade. £20m when we spent about 3 on Hirst is ridiculous. 8-10m it's worth getting it done, I would walk away at any higher tbh.
We definitely need 2 strikers 1 to complete or improve on Hirst. I genuinely expect big things from Hirst this season though, he's been so impressive.
