Pubs are allowed to serve until 1am. Starmer called for a bank holiday when the Lionesses got to their Euro's final which the Tories rejected, where's the call this time around?

Easy to call for it when you are not in power, makes you look good in front of the nation

You make a fair point - I do know that my ex-wife was born exactly 9 months after our World Cup win so they clearly didn't need a bank holiday to celebrate in her parents' household.

This time he's in charge and doesn't want to want to waste public funds, and the Conservatives are not sure who is leading them.

I don't buy the maths behind the cost to the economy. £2.3bn they've always said a bank holiday costs, it sounds like bobbins to me and has been widely questioned by independent models. Did we see that impact when we had the additional one in May last year? Entirely anecdotal but personally I'll spend more money on Sunday if Monday is a bank holiday. And I won't do much work on Monday regardless. Hypocrite calling for it in opposition but not in power. Starmer out.

So England win the Euros and the Jocks and Taffs on 12:36 - Jul 12 with 1019 views | stonojnr | theres no way we are getting a bank holiday if we win, he's just refusing to rule it out so he doesnt get to be portrayed as the killjoy, yet. bank holidays costs the economy billions of pounds in lost productivity, that are never matched by the money spent on tourism, it would wipe out the growth figures they were proudly claiming this week. in fact iirc that was one of the reasons the figures in 2023 for May showed we went into recession, we had 3 bank holidays instead of the normal 2.
