Every report on Greaves mentions that he came from there.

Quite a nice village, though basically contiguous with Hull. Pretty much all of the Uni of Hull alumni contingent on here will have lived in Cott for their first year as well, so might just be a Phil thing.

Never lived in Cottingham but played football at the Lawns, probably the worst pitches I've ever played on. Also went to the Gardeners Arms and Haworth on Cottingham Road more than once.

The pitches were terrible, and also spent many evening in both the Gardeners and Haworth - both still there as of last year at least. Think the football pitches have gone though - The Lawns were closed a few years ago along with the rest of the Cottingham based halls.

Glad to hear it. I've tended to go to Princes Ave when I've been back which has changed a great deal since I lived there.

Phil has go to phrases for each player.

You'll not find an article on Idris El Mizouni without the phrase 'Paris born schemer' in it.

I noticed Phil used the term Verde Nero for an Italian team the other day.

I didn't realise he spoka de lingo.

My son is following in my footsteps and off to Hull uni in September. I've briefed him about the legendary Beverley Rd run. Though I expect not many of those old pubs still exist.

Bev Road has made a bit of a comeback in recent years apparently, first half of the 2010s it was very much Newland and Princes Ave that were the main go to for students, lots of bars reopened on Bev though in the last few years.

I always like throwing in an Italian club's nickname.

Pave is my haunt when I'm back these days. The St John's was probably my favourite pub. Got told I looked like Veronica Lake by the famously rude landlady in there once.

Spiders nightclub was the best. I wonder if that's still going? Off to Google to find out!

Wow, it actually is. And it looks like it hasn't changed a bit!

I've never come across another nightclub quite like Spiders. I hope they still do those weird cocktails with jelly worms in!
