does anyone else feel sorry for walton? 15:49 - Jul 17 with 4450 viewsreuserfivethree

He was a great keeper for us when he played, but just doesn't seem to fit any more. If he's not number one here, hopefully he'll get a move to a club where he will be. It just feels like he'll be the first of quite a few players who have helped us get where we are who will be let go as we upgrade.

In some ways I'd be happy for most of last year's team (which doesn't include Walton, obviously) to have a crack at the Prem, even if it's a disaster. On the other hand, I'd also quite like us to stay up...

Don’t know tbh mate, help/guidance whatever we could term it as.

If it was those low amounts why did the club have a parting of ways. They wouldn’t have let a player go in most circumstances, ( I know that’s different as a player has a value to the club). It feels a little over the top if we did sack him for it. But maybe that’s just me.

From the first day they took over, it's been clear that core to our new owners is a philosophy of being 100% squeaky clean & upstanding in every way - and being seen to be so. They expect all employees to be intelligent enough to know that, and that they won't tolerate rulebreakers, however minor the offence may seem to us.

Sorry, but for GC, this would have been black & white - from their pov, they couldn't be seen to carry on employing someone who broke the rules on gambling - wouldn't be good for their image. And further down the line, someone else could say "well you carried on employing him, why not me?" for someething maybe slightly moree serious. They'd see it as a slippery slope, so they set clear boundaries.

Poll: Town's most cultured left foot ever?

Yeah, I get it, balancing everything is the harder decision you make. If they thought he was a risk for the future then it’s understandable.

You would hope the club would support him as well though. He’s in the wrong, but just feels like the club could have helped him to rehabilitate or however you want to term it.

Very simplistic view from myself but it didn’t look like the worst of misdemeanours albeit stupid.

You are right. It’s not the worst thing a person’s ever done, he was stupid and I hope something was done for him in terms of his gambling. An awful, destructive thing to fall into from what little I’ve seen of it first hand.

However, I’m with Ryorry on this. The club has been clear since the new owners about the standards it wanted from all its employees and I don’t have a problem with that at all. He crossed the line. It’s a bit like if you work for a bank and you take money, there should in principle be no difference whether it’s £10 or £1m (there never used to be). You’ve stepped over the line.

He knew the rules, he broke them. In the club’s shoes, would I have let him go? Yes. Is it easy to fire somebody? No, it’s b horrible but sometimes it has to be done.

On to Walton, I've always been a supporter of his on this forum and I still think he’s a very good keeper. I hope he stays. I assume with the fee our new goalie means he is the best we can get and an ‘upgrade’ on Walton and Hladky. I would hope so and think it the right thing to do. Keeper is one of the most important positions on the pitch. Brian Clough wasn’t daft when he signed Shilton. He was worth those ten points a season.

2/10. Poor effort even by your low standards.

I’m surprised this guy ever gets any oxygen in here. Been on ignore from the moment I noticed him.

I do wonder if he is someone who is a victim of our success and getting promoted so quickly. He couldn't find his way into Brighton in the prem and wonder if he would struggle with us. Might be decent cover, although he didn't exactly inspire last season doing that. We may also just keep him because we need a back up.
