Don't get me wrong, he's a brave man being honest with the world about his problems with depression but I find the blanket coverage on the BBC totally cringeworthy and over the top. Presenters crying because he came second is a bit of odd TV in my eyes.

Genuine question.

Why do swimmers always go on about the early mornings to practice? It's not like Adam Peaty has a 9-5 job, surely he could just say to his local swimming pool that he wants to have 1 hour (each day) to himself every week to train.

As someone else mentioned - it's this stuff that you do from the age of about 8 that gets you to the Olympics.

But also, are you genuinely suggesting that a local, Council-owned pool might just shut the entire place down for an hour so Adam can have a swim!? There's family fun swims and school swimming lessons and the local over 80s social swim all day long, which is why people like Peaty turn up at 5am.

Also, he's more than likely in the water twice a day, not just for an hour. Even I used to do 6 - 7:30am and sometimes 7 - 8:30pm and I was sh*t.

He used to train at Repton (private school), so access isn’t so much of an issue for them. Millfield and Mount Kelly are two of the top ones (Matt Richards is Millfield I think). And there’s a select group of Unis with top swim programmes that give preferential access.

But yeah, you’re right that councils can’t go round shutting facilities at all times. Mind you, our club takes over one of the council pools pre-8 am and post 6pm for most week days. It annoys me as a parent that there isn’t room for a swim at the same time, so must really per off the locals.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

Over the top to have empathy with a man that they probably know personally very well?
Odd take.

The BBC prefer to have specialists who actually are knowledgeable about swimming (plus the ubiquitous Clare Balding) & part of the downside is that they're often involved with some of the British competitors so therefore they find it hard to remain objective about them.

Fair enough - I didn't realise he was training at a Private School. I've competed at Millfield a few times, it's an amazing facility.

The private schools and Unis will have their own timetables for use during the day, of course.

It's also worth remembering that Peaty has a kid. I get most of my exercise done nowadays in the early mornings or evenings so I can spend more time with the kids so I'm sure it's the same for most people, Olympian or not... fit it around your life, innit.
