I'm getting some decorating done next month, and will be sourcing the paint for the decorator.

When we moved into the place this time last year, we managed to get a 3-for-2 on paint from B&Q. At the moment they're running 10% off everything across the store, which ends this evening.

Those of you who know such things - is this likely to be the best offer we'll get for the time being? Or do B&Q do other discounts around bank holidays that might be worth waiting for?

Alternatively, are there other better options out there who either use the Valspar colour palette, or would be able to mix up a colour using the appropriate sample card?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

If you can, price check with B&M. Did some decorating last month and went to B&M before B&Q (right next door so thought why not!) just to check and it was significantly cheaper for paint and brushes etc. Depends on what you need though as I just needed basic white bathroom paint and some bits.

B&Q have every colour in the world, and if they don’t have it, they can make it.

One thing I don’t pay for is the paint, because I don’t pick the colours (my wife enjoys that side) of the renovations/decorating.

We’ll be good again... one day

All ill say on this one (as a decorator), is that you get what you pay for. If you skimp on cheap paint, it'll take more time for the decorator to do the job properly, so you wont save on labour.

Having said that, Dulux and Leyland are pretty safe bets for mid range paints, but we personally don't like Crown and definitely don't go with supermarket paints. They are terrible.

Edit: B&Q Valspar isn't terrible, but Dulux is better.

Good mate of mate has a decorating company & he swears by Johnstone's Paints. I took his advice a few years back & decorated my property using their paint. Turned out well, great to use, got good even coverage, & it was very durable.

A few years ago now had a leak in my extension roof. Put out feelers for decorators, some didn't turn up, one did, but never came back with a quote. It was an insurance claim job. Ended up asking the insurance company if I could purchase the paint, brushes etc to do the job. They agreed so I got the best paint available, brushes, brush cleaner, a platform for standing on to do ceilings, dust covers, rollers and one of those big plastic buckets that decorators use. Just about everything and the insurance company paid up once I had emailed them copies of the receipts.
