Man City away memories…. 07:06 - Aug 23 with 2079 views | ITFC_Forever | … all at Maine Road. 1993-94(?), Franny Lee’s first game as chairman after a long and protracted takeover, it finally went through just before they played us. City fans were as loud as I’ve known a home crowd as an away fan before the game. However Ian Marshall temporarily spoiled the party by putting us 1-0 up after around 12 minutes, but City came back to win. 1996-97, First game of the season away on a Friday night on Sky. The debut of the cream and black kit, and Gus Uhlenbeek had peroxide blonde hair. We lost 0-1. Both of these games saw a blue battalion rather than army, whereas tomorrow we could have sold our 3k allocation twice over. [Post edited 23 Aug 2024 8:50]

Man City away memories…. on 07:21 - Aug 23 with 2001 views | bluelagos | 1989 we lost 4.0 House mate was a City fan and the prick left 4.0 postits all over the house. Went another time when they were rebuilding a stand (The Kippax?) and there was a large empty section of seating. A steward had the job of monitoring the crowd in that empty section. He got some p*ss taking from the town fans. Can't recall the score but that stuck in my mind.

Man City away memories…. on 07:24 - Aug 23 with 1992 views | Steve_M | I've been to Maine Road twice: 94-95 season, did an open day at Keale University so went to a mid-week game. Kippax stand was part built so we had a section of the lower tier, Paz hit the post with a header and we lost 2-0. 99-00 season, stuck in that corner stand and lost to a Kevin Horlock goal. We did everything but score, Nicky Weaver doing somersaults on the pitch at full time still annoys me. I should have gone to the game in 98 when Dyer won it late on but left it to a City supporting mate to get tickets. He left it too late then Joe Royle got appointed their manager. I was there for the Horlock game - how we didn’t score that night I’ll never know. Was an amazing atmosphere in what was a proper old school ground. Not many grounds like that at the top level these days. I’m looking forward to Goodison again towards the end of the season.
Man City away memories…. on 07:39 - Aug 23 with 1905 views | JohnTy | Saw Ipswich at Maine Road a few times. The first was in August 1968, a very poor game in which the great Ray Crawford, in his second spell at Ipswich, scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw.
Man City away memories…. on 08:02 - Aug 23 with 1826 views | WestStanderLaLaLa | 97/98 late into the ground and already losing, won 2-1 Petta and Dyer 99/00 midweek sat on scaffolding watching Weaver make a million saves 00/01 they were dreadful, 3 up and cruising, biting nails at the end and hung on 3-2

Man City away memories…. on 08:05 - Aug 23 with 1781 views | Pendejo | Can't remember how many times I went to Maine Road, it's only 5 or 6, but struggling to recall two. First was Full Members Cup, which due to both clubs having been knocked out of FA Cup was played in 4th round weekend 1987? We won 3-2 I was at the game others have refetenced, Weaver had the game of his life, one of Those games that despite defeat reminds you why you go to football. Went a couple of games as a guest of a City shareholder in the padded seats, meal & legends beforehand, Mike Summerbee , I know both ended 0-0 but can only remember Reading being one. The one where Dyer scored the winner I'd been offered a freebie in with shareholder, any game but Ipswich matey! IIRC Wright performed superbly, this commenced Weaver v Wright as future England #1... Pretty sure there's another Town game there but can't remember it. Did I get that drunk?

Was at that 4-0 defeat. Sat in the main stand with a couple of Citeh mates and got dogs abuse all afternoon. Think Sergei was playing out of position if I remember correctly.
| We have no village green, or a shop.
It's very, very quiet.
I can walk to the pub. |

Will never know how people recall stuff like that. I remember it was bloody freezing, Google tells me it was a Feb game so that would stack up. Also went in the late 90s but all I remember is the walk through Moss side and wondering if my car would still be there on my return. And some Citeh fans singing Munich songs as was the way back then. I did like Maine Rd as a ground with atmosphere, expect tomorrow will be a lot more sanitised.

He was playing wide on the right that afternoon. Totally anonymous as would be expected. As Lagos just said, don’t know how I remember stuff like that but I can’t remember what I’m doing in the present moment half the time.

Man City away memories…. on 22:24 - Aug 23 with 1446 views | RetiredBlue | F A Cup March 1967, we were 2nd division, Man City 1st division. Ray Crawford scored in first half, and City struggled to break us down. Eventually they got an equalizer with about 5 minutes to go, which probably enabled us to get out of the ground alive. Though if my memory serves me right we scored in the last minute but was disallowed due to Joe Broadfoot being in an offside position on the other side of the pitch, a goal which nowadays would have been allowed to stand. Lost the replay a few days later 3 - 0 with Mike Summerbee taking us apart.

My first and only visit to Maine Road as a very young teenager. probably my first ever away game following Town, although I'd had a treat to a West Ham v Chelsea the year prior. Went on a coach from Woodbridge with a 'new' step grandfather and still remember so much about that day. Pissed down all day, coach parked in the city and a walk to the Maine Road. Hundreds of Town fans in the side stand and i'm in line with us hitting the underside of the bar and in late on to win it, unless my memories wrong. I'm sitting around the pitch for the replay as I was mad keen on collecting autographs and the stadium filled so quick
