VAR or no VAR, they favour the big teams. Last week every challenge - free kick to Liverpool, and often a yellow card. This week, every 50/50 is a free kick to Citeh. Penalty decision - it's supposed to be clear and obvious - well why did it take over 2 minutes? That isn't clear and obvious. But the foul on Davis was clear and obvious, so it gets waved on and no VAR check at all. When we played a ball down the line, Pep steps onto the field and plays the ball. No red card , not even a warning. What the hell is that about, the ball was still in play. Never mind the technical area, he was interfering with play.
It's tough enough to go to a place like the Etihad for a newly promoted team, but when you're up against 12 men it's impossible.

Poll: would you rather

It was a penalty for Davis’ foul, ref should have given it in play, but they’re too lazy and let VAR do the job for them.

But the rest is correct. Two-tier refereeing, and VAR just magnifies how blatant it is… watch the incident again and then give the decision to the bigger team.

Believe the ball had already gone out before Pep stepped on to the pitch?

Regardless of that, baffling the ref didn’t have a chat or card him.

Big 6 bias and all that.

He shouldn’t be on the pitch anyway.

I don't think I'd call it 'bias' as such, but clearly something we're going to have to deal with this season. It's human nature. The referee's instinctively assume that their players are 'better' and therefore they give them the benefit of any doubt - and give exactly the opposite to us. Same with kids in a classroom, the kids perceived as being troublemakers get into trouble for things that 'better' kids don't. Not fair, but just what it is.

was the ball completely over the line? I don't think it was, but anyway its the linesman's call, not Pep's.

Lino did flag for a throw in to us, but like I said, doesn’t give Pep the right to enter the pitch.

Some excellent points made by the OP here.

To add, if I may..

Refs.
It was a huge disadvantage that the appointed referee got injured and had to be replaced by a rookie.
Very unlucky for us.
Even more in City's pocket.

Poetry in motion.
I know it's cheating but they all do it, to get your fair share of VAR you have to know how to go down for the penalty in just the right way, like the song says "poetry in motion".
If you can get the appeal to the referee started when you're halfway to the ground, even better. Luis Suarez was the best at this.

Edit- best example of Poetry in the Liverpool game. The guy who ensured the ref knew Wes Burns had clipped his heels. Little jump in the air. THAT is this league and we have to get used to it.

Leif committed the foul but what proof did VAR really have to determine it was inside the box on initial contact ? There was no camera angle we saw to support the decision. If it’s close why no t award a free kick ? Why jump to penalty?

Also, why refuse to review Ipswich penalty appeal with same fairness ?

Seriously biased VAR staff on display today.

With all the proven bad calls Liverpool suffered from VAR last year who ultimately benefited?

Answer = Man City

its as it always was, remember Matt Holland saying when we played Man Utd back last time in the Prem, Giggs got fouled, and the ref (who iirc was Graham Poll) ran across, instant free kick etc etc and was shouting "Ryan Ryan are you ok Ryan?"

and Matt had never encountered a ref who ever spoke to players by their first name before or was that concerned about their welfare, was just standing there in midfield and Poll then turned to him, to book one of the town players for the foul, and apparently was all like well who are you ? which one of your players did that to poor Ryan.

apparently he hadnt a clue who any of the Town team were, but was on first name terms with Man Utd.
