We've spent over £80 MILLION 17:03 - Aug 25 with 3190 viewsFromReuserWithLove

On the squad this summer. Madness! Quite hard to comprehend because of where we've been over the past two decades.

What I found most shocking yesterday was that despite this amazing summer outlay, Man City still had a squad player on bench worth 20m more.

What achievement their fans must feel hey.

Big clubs have expensive players shock.

Chelsea loaned put a £90m player for the last two seasons.

Man Utd loaned out an £80m player last season and regularly have an £80m player on the bench.

Chelsea have a bench that cost more than anyone elses.

City compete at a different level to us.

Dont be bitter. 2 seasons ago we were the Man City of League 1, we didnt complain.

He had a £100m release clause, and thats what City paid.

I'm not being bitter ffs, just highlighting that point! Has everything gotta be a fooking polarised argument on this place? As bad as Twitter.

It's staggering. How much have we got left ? £25? £50 even?

We’ve shelled out an eye watering amount but even if we go down, I think we’re going to be ok. Ben Johnson free, but could probably fetch 7m now he’s under contract, Omari will be worth more than 18m by next May, we’ll easily get our money back on Clarke, suspect Delap will prove to be worth at least what we paid for him, ditto O’She and I think Greaves might be seen as a bargain in retrospect.

So the OP is suggesting its amazing we have spent a lot of money? So by that metric it would be even more amazing for City fans as they have spent more

Thats all the money spent then, bearing in mind McKennas contract itself was expensive.

Trust has been placed.

Ashton we expect will have planned for staying up and getting relegated.

The GULF between the Championship and the Premier League is.... big.

A lot has changed since Sir Bob had the reigns. The difference between the old first and second divisions was nowhere near as big as it is today. A club could get promoted and finish mid table with few if any signings. Do that today and relegation is very likely. And we are not signing washed up has beens like Forest did. Lingard, Shelvy and Felipe were all good players in their day but well past their sell by date. We have made good young signings who should all improve a lot in the next few years.

The fees are largely incidental - because they’re not what they are declared to be, being big full of add-ons, what-ifs and bonuses not to mention backhanders. The big issue is wages payable in the here and now - and still due when the recipient falls out of favour…. Usually in a year at the current rate of churn

The only issue with the fees is that the vast bulk is being kicked down the road - and Town’s future income is unknown. The assumption being unwanted or unaffordable players have value and will move on. Sheepshanks and supporters who remember a football club beat Portman Road know this isn’t necessarily the case.

Yeah, how many of those fancy Dan Premier League teams would be any good on tarmac instead of our lovely pitch...Maybe I am the last one who can give the advice of reading the post through before hitting 'Add reply' with any credibility but it is worthwhile (and not just as a check for typos.)
