The team that got us promoted last season 22:49 - Aug 27 with 2290 views | ringwoodblue | I know we had to sign new players to improve our chances of staying up this season but part of me would love to know how the team that got us promoted would’ve done in the Premier League if we had the same loan players as the end of last season ie Moore, Sarmiento and Hutchinson. How far would that team spirit, togetherness, familiarity and confidence have taken them do you think? Would they have been able to make the step up or just get beat every week? The team that got us promoted last season on 23:08 - Aug 27 with 2081 views | Blaggers12 | I think there's a large element of pragmatism from the club here. We've arrived in the Prem at least a year ahead of schedule, so we have to spend to ensure we are competitive in this league. Those that were on the journey with us now have to really raise their game to ensure they are capable to playing to this standard. It's a romantic notion, but we can't afford to be romantic if we are to aspire to the Brightons and Brentfords...

Things have changed a hell of a lot in the past 25 years.

2000 team got promoted two or three years late. This lot were prompted two or three years early.

People and the media like to think they have but have they really? I’m sure if in a hypothetical situation each positioned team from 2000 played that of same position now the results would be fairly even. And despite all 3 promoted clubs going down last year there were equally as many yo-yo teams back then as now.
The team that got us promoted last season on 05:18 - Aug 28 with 1500 views | MK1 | It's the speed of our progression that has meant so many coming in. If we were still in the Championship (say finished 9th last season) think we would still have seen a fair few ins and outs, albeit not at the £££'s we have paid now.

The challenge started when you looked at the bench and you replace Wes with Kayden, or Leif with err Clarke who is now in fact injuried! A better bench was required but we were never going to buy a bench to support what we had, we have done the right thing in upgrading the starters giving last year’s starters the space to grow and potentially where they can challenge this years starters. It’s good squad management but had to happen a bit faster than all expected due to the speed we moved from L1 to Champ to PL.

The team that got us promoted last season on 07:10 - Aug 28 with 1222 views | ArnieM | OP: Agree with your post and which is why I said McKenna is giving the original players a chance to stake their claim in the initial games. Naturally I’m chastised for suggesting such a thing by the usual individuals on here to anything I post. But it is also a fact that the majority of our promoted squad hadn’t even played at Championship level, let alone PL. Overall I think as a group they’ve actually done well, but would it be enough for the rest of the season. Unfortunately not. The club can’t afford to be sentimental about it. Like it or not it’s a business, and hardly about “ football” these days. Just look at what clubs are doing now. Burnley quoting £25m MUST pay, for a previous £8m player who’s barely registered any games let alone goals. Or good ole Chelsea, quoting £38m for a crocked player , who they know is crocked , and have barely played. Their club is full of players they’ve trawled in their keep net, never intending to use, but to sell on at inflated profits. THIS is what the PL is really all about. It’s nothing to do with the beautiful game. I suggest every one of our purchasers this window, should we get relegated, we could sell at double what we’ve paid for them. No? Look no further than Burnley’s asking price for this striker!
