Ahh not another hero. He was an incredible, influential musician.
I was really lucky to have had a relationship with Herbie in my teens (in a non Saville way)!! Herbie was a genuine life changer for me. Back in 1994 he ran a Rock School in Canterbury for kids to get into playing music live. My mum sent him a letter as I was too young to join…but he and the team let me join up. We had 4 nights away from home with my mates in halls of residence aged 12 and a gig at the end of the week and at the opening of the channel tunnel with some French dudes who played Money For Nothing note perfect. Farkin glorious. He was so understated often chipping off for a lie down on the grass and ciggie… he mentored and played with all the bands, he never said anything about his achievements. Was a total gentleman. I lost contact with him when I was 17/18 (he wrote a reference for me to get into uni….I didn’t get in..haha) but those experiences through the 90s stayed with me. When I moved to Ipswich I set up Punch Rock Schools to offer the same type of experiences here before moving into other areas in live music. :) A genuine legend and good guy.

Session legend. His catalogue of hits must be incredible. I saw him play live once. He played bass in Jeff Wayne's war of the worlds touring band. Note perfect and effortless.

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.
