No reason why we can’t go back in for him in January.

I suspect he’ll be out of our price range. They’ve knocked back, what, somewhere around £30M already? And he’s started well and will be getting European exposure. Who knows though.

Lovely goal. I’m convinced we’ve missed a gem (not from want of trying). He looks the mutt’s nuts to me and is the sort of player to make a huge difference to the season.

But as I mentioned earlier, the silver lining is Delap gets more game time to develop. I’m happy with that but it feels a bit like second best. I don’t mean that negatively towards Delap, who’s got buckets of potential. Just that Ioannidis, Delap and Hirst would be a cracking striker dept for us.

To be fair we don't know whether signing him was ever seriously on.

He's a good footballer, & the quality of his 3 finishes in the Finland & Ireland games (yes the defending was poor) shows why a number of sides were in for hm over the summer, but, I genuinely believe that his style of play would be far better suited to a MacKenna side than most/all of the others, certainly Leicester & Southampton anyway.
He'd make us better & McKenna would make the absolute most out of his talents, just like he did with Hirst & has already done with Delap.
Ioannidis will probably sign for a top half Italian side, who will just look at him as a goal scorer & won't utilise or value his hold up & link play the way we would.
He'll go for £30m in January & then we'll pick him up 18 months later for around £12m. Maybe.
