away season ticket 14:16 - Sep 19 with 2621 viewsAlan_Handsome

Anyone else caught in that strange scenario where they are in the ballot/queueing for every home match (only got Liverpool tix so far), so will probably only end up going to 5 matches at home this season.....but.....have enough away points to be guaranteed tickets away (apart from maybe brentford and bournemouth). I didn't intend to go to EVERY away match this season but I'm not missing a game or else I'll drop a point (I do actually go to all away games and don't just buy the ticket for the point btw - that's not a fair thing to do) and then I won't get a chance to see the boys home or away.

I know this is on me and I should have bought a season ticket years ago. I go on my own every week and very often, if friends are going (from time to time) I'll get tickets in the same stand as them, and different friends like different stands, so it's always been nice to not need to commit to one seat for a whole season.

I'm not moaning as I know some people would kill to go to away matches, just feel like this is a strange scenario.

Can't wait for Saturday, Southampton away last year was great, I think that was the match where I truly thought we could compete for promotion. Just hoping it doesn't take me 5 hours to get back to Cambridge this time.

with regards to the home games, yes they effectively removed all prioritisation which means it is now more or less a free for all for any remaining tickets.

Why is this a problem? Well if you as a season ticket holder attended with other non season ticket holders on a regular basis, you are now pretty screwed, because all you can do now, if you want to sit together is to buy a set of new tickets that are together and you have to sell back your season ticket.

I have mixed feelings on it, as I want us to grow as a club and the scheme will enable more people to watch us this season, but it is bloody irking that a lot of plastics will have effectively jumped the queue for home games this season. It also means a chunk of non Ipswich supporting fans could get tickets in the home end too.

If they mess with the away priority scheme I will throw the season ticket back to the club, because that would be the ultimate p*ss take. But they do need to clamp down on people buying away points and not attending, there are going to need to start doing spot checks.

I know a lot of people are unhappy they can't get away tickets, but I suspect after this 1st season back, that problem will subside. There are a bunch of people right now who will want to go to a lot of grounds for the first time, and once they have done that, the chances are they will be less bothered next season (assuming we stay up).

But yes in answer to your question, I have a season ticket, but am in a similar situation due to the lack of priority at home games this season.

Yep! No season ticket but 33 away points now.

Works for me tbh, prefer an awayday.

Can't be beyond the realms of possibility to identify away tickets that were purchased and then not scanned in at the away ground? I wonder if it's just easier for the club to turn a blind eye to this, rather than having all the bad press? How do you know if someone bought a ticket with no intention of going or if they got a puncture on the way to the match?

You would like to think there are tried and tested schemes for dealing with this sort of thing at other clubs with much bigger demand than us (ie. Liverpool), but you look at stub hub and there were a ton of tickets for sale for their away game vs us.

I don't have a season ticket but I'm currently on 39 away priority points. This was after deciding early on last season to commit to every league away game, which I've carried on for this season so far.

This suits me on the whole as living a long way from Ipswich it is easier to prioritise aways. Although I do try to get to 3 or 4 home games a season.

Since the priority systems for home and away are totally separated (other than just having the membership), you're better off committing to one or the other (so, having season ticket OR away points) and accepting that you're either a home fan or an away fan. Unless you have the finances and freedom to be both...

I'm in a similarish situation. As someone who lives in the Midlands, I've generally split games between home and away, but this hasn't really worked in my favour. Considered buying season tickets a couple of years ago, but knowing that evening games and quite a few Saturdays would be out, didn't bother. So for home games, now it's the lottery. So far got Fulham on the Monday morning, and Everton has been my first successful ballot.

I'm on 18 points for away, have managed to get Man City and Southampton so far. Got my daughter a West Ham ticket, but I'm going to have to sit with the home fans :(

Interesting that there has been a lot of moaning about the away points system, but agree, it's the home game system that is less fair. I thought the Huddersfield game last year was about fair in terms of prioritising. I did find it surprising that this season the threshold for the first ballot is so low.

Car break down, family emergency, personal medical condition, train cancelled, the wife's gone into labour, the dog's gone into labour...

Take your pic of "genuine" excuses. There's no way to police this. It will not happen.

And I'm also of the opinion of, if someone wants to spend their money on a ticket but not use it, it's their money to spend. My mate's got a beautiful motorcycle sat in the garage that he never rides. He's spent the money on it. Should other people in the market for a bike feel it should be taken from him and given to someone who would use it?

Similar - when I had a season ticket I rarely went to away games.

Now I have away points I intend to go to every away game maybe 3-4 homes (ballot allowing) but less fussed.

Being a 460 mile round trip to PR the away experience has become more appealing now, better seats than I can get at PR.

Same situation, prefer most away games nowadays anyway.

I have posted similar earlier in the season. In exact same position and for the same reasons. Can get to all away games yet home are a lottery. One way or another been some odd choices for it to have ended up like this.
