West Stand - Severely Restricted View 21:36 - Nov 18 with 2161 views | cymroglas | Got a ticket to the Newcastle game today described as a "Severely Restricted View" seat. Got a "Restricted View" seat previously and its not been too bad but "Severely" suggests I will still have a stiff neck on Christmas day. Anyone know how bad this will be?

I had one of those for Norwich last season. Happy to hide behind the pillar for most of it.
West Stand - Severely Restricted View on 09:58 - Nov 19 with 1390 views | BotesdaleBlue | If and when the West stand gets developed it will be good to get these many restricted view seats reinstated with a clear view, with the removal of the metal stanchions, with the supports surely being re-built externally into the new roof structure. Do any posters know how many seats in the West are marked up as "restricted" or "severely restricted?. I suspect the number is higher than many imagine. I estimate it is a 1000+.

There's just over 1000 seats up there that are non-season ticket, vast majority of them are RV and a handful SRV. I think some of the slightly less restricted RV seats are season tickets too, mainly after the cobbold and press-box relocations at the beginning of the season. All in all I reckon you're not far off the mark, I'd estimate probably 1200. I've wondered before if the RV status is only because of the stanchions, or also due to limited visibility of the nearest touchline, even from non-RV rows it's not brilliant and if I remember right it gets slightly worse the further back you go. Either way though, it'd be great to have no internal supports, and a less steeply sloped roof, get some natural light into the upper tier! Probably would be better for acoustics too.

I've only sat in the upper tier a handful of times since it opened, always been an end stand person, couldn't get a seat when I started if I had wanted one anyway! For me the view was fine provided you didn't want to see what's going on around the near touchline, made worse by people leaning forward just so they can get a better view. Could only be solved by moving or narrowing the pitch or better still knock it down and start again, the whole design, roof stanchions, internal space etc was a short sighted design compromise to provide extra seats and executive boxes (which have only just been completed over 4 decades later!) screwed the club financially and we never recovered, yet.
| How####were Chelsea? We beat them at home!
Our only win in 15 home games. |

Yes, but imagine if we didn’t have that stand!

The South Stand's already somewhat misaligned with the pitch, North extends beyond the touchlines on both sides quite a bit. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that when Cobbold gets redeveloped, the pitch gets moved a few metres to the the East, that would help with the West Stand Upper view of the near-side of the pitch. I'm guessing the undersoil heating etc might make a pitch move far more costly than it was a few seasons ago though...
