This cold weather... 10:15 - Nov 21 with 1479 viewsgtsb1966

got me thinking this morning for some reason what it must be like to be homeless. Was standing in the garden at 5.30am whilst the dogs had a pee and for some reason it crossed my mind. Went back indoors, put the kettle on and whacked the heating up. Makes you realise what we take for granted. I just can't imagine it.

I made a post like this on here once when it was snowing and I got home from work, came in, started making a hot meal and stuck the heating on.

Certain moments really do make you think.

Truly impaired.

Apparently there are approximately 325k registered homeless people in the UK - which is around double the population of Ipswich.

You think that this would be seen as more of a national disgrace by the media than adding VAT on private school costs.

Very thought provoking post Mr 1966

I recall that in 1999 or thereabouts, the Labour Govt posed the question " What momentous thing can we, the Govt, do to improve lives in order to mark the new Millenium? "

People wrote in with suggestions.... near the top of the list was the cancellation of Third World debt.... the interest on the interest on the interest arrangements that hamstring poorer nations

But top of the list was... banish homelessness. Find a solution to every single homeless person's issues and get a roof over their heads.

What we got was more Third World debt, more homelessness and the sodding Millenium Dome

Well thought. When we lived briefly in Maine, the thought crossed my mind a few times as we went a couple of months with even daytime temperatures failing to get above -12°C. Brutal. Not that that takes anything away from the hardships faced by the homeless in this country of course. I wouldn’t want to be outside all day and night in this. We should look after people better.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

It does make you appreciate things absolutely, it's crazy to think that in 2024 homelessness is higher than ever, a thought for the dogs they often have sat with them too, I often wonder the life they probably once had and somehow ended up sleeping outside(though locked in a cage thing all day in the warm is probably worse), there is a homeless guy who is often around a retail park in Pboro who has a gorgeous husky dog.....but yeah certainly right now when my house is at 18 degrees and that's cold to many it certainly makes you think..

Most dogs are fine outside, in fact that Husky might be finding our current cold snap a bit too warm for comfort.... they are much happier at extreme cold temperatures

I had an interesting conversation with an RSPCA Inspector a few years back. In his opinion dogs benefit greatly from a permanent human presence, being a pack animal they need to have their owner right alongside them.

He reckoned that the most unhappy dogs were the ones left alone in the house or flat all day as their owners went to work....too much seperation anxiety.

So a travellers or homeless person's dog might in fact be happier and more balanced than some others.

The mother in sort of law's dog is distraught when she's out the house. I've seen it while dog sitting, although come to think of it, maybe it's me she hates? Anyway, very ansious indeed until her mummy comes back (she's a softy staggie cross)

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I can see why you came to that conclusion, tbf.

The mother in sort of law is very soft, especially when she's had a spliff (she's past 80), but she's not a staffie.
