Watching Plymouth v Watford tonight. Whittaker has done absolutely nothing and looks poor. Not having the best season. I think we can see why a premiership team didn't take a punt. Were we interested or was that just a rumour. Bullet dodged if we were.

You forgot Gerrard.

But yes, if you are a famous ex footballer you must be a good manager. And you get to rename a football club. Yay! Ahhhh, those halcyon days of ‘Roy Keane’s Ipswich’ and ‘Frank Lampards Derby’. Shiver.

I can’t understand why Rooney is so highly rated within the game. I’ve seen nothing to suggest he’ll be a successful coach. But then I’ve never seen him working with players, so who knows. His teams are pretty rubbish though.

Thought he did a decent enough job at Derby. I think he could make a pretty decent manager once he has players who understand how he wants to play. Plymouth employed a Paul Hurst type manager before Rooney's arrival, so he is trying to make the most of what he is left with. Not saying he will ever get Plymouth into the PL, but he will get them mid table given time.

Poll: New hobby suggestions for NeedhamChris.

He isn't like any of the players we currently have occupying the positions he plays in, and I do think people see what they want to see in him because of the long distance bangers, but in reality he isn't particularly mobile, certainly not defensively and takes a lot of pot shots which border on selfishness at times judging by the Plymouth forum. I wouldn't have minded giving him a go in the Champ at the right price, but he would never get in ahead of Broady for me.

Your post seems to suggest you've seen a lot of him to make judgement on his suitability... and then your last sentence suggests you haven't seen him play at all. Unless Rooney is playing players out of position (which is quite possible) he plays the opposite side to Broadhead, so that wouldn't be an issue. 19 goals in a poor championship team last season suggests there's a bit more there than the occasional long-range goal. I think under the right manager, he'd improve a lot.
He certainly wouldn't be near the top of my wish list for January, though.

I've seen as much of him as most on here, and was just using Broadhead as an example of a player we have at the moment who would have been playing in the Champ but isn't now and is the most comparable. If you want to use the profile of his actual position what similarities do you see to Burns or Ogbene? He just doesn't fit.

Watford have a few forward players that look very good.

Fair play to 'Stevie G', he büggered off to manage in a pub league the second it looked like he was being found out rather than going into punditry and earn a living criticising managers with a hundred times more ability than him.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
