Armando Broja to finally play for Everton?! 23:56 - Dec 1 with 2020 viewsunstableblue

Broja played 45mins for Everton U21s in a 1-0 loss against Forest recently.

And Dyche did indicate the Chelsea loanee Broja was looking likely to be in the Man U squad. But in the end he was not present.

So it will be December and a 14th or 15th game before he appears.

Everton are in desperate need of firepower having not scored for some time.

We need them to continue to falter, although they sounded pretty good at Old Trafford despite the score line.

Dyche will surely get his marching order soon, with the new investors in place, and fans fed up.

They play Wolves at home Weds, important game for both.

Poll: What level of support are you bringing to Portman Road today?

Whilst it was absolutely the right call to pass on an injured player with no certainty of recovery or timescale, I’d still be pretty ticked off if he scores the goals for Everton that drags them out of the relegation battle.

I agree.

Had we done that deal, we would be in a world of trouble. You'd have been talking about having him him the squad, not playing and then not having Ali in.

Very glad that one did not go through.

Not just that though as we now have wiggle room to add to the squad in the forthcoming window that we would not have had with Broja sitting in the treatment room with a big fee on his head ! Yes right decision made much too risky.

Playing devil's advocate for a minute. At least we would have had a fit back up striker ready for the latter part of this year and moving into January. At the moment we don't have that and have to suffer the vagaries of the January transfer window, we might not get anybody through the door, we might not sign anybody until Jan 31st........

Would we? Is he definitely going to be fit and firing as he was for Chelsea three years ago? If so we missed out. More likely if he has any fitness is the Fulham version. They weren’t exactly beating a path to Chelsea’s door to sign after his efforts.

Dodged a bullet there in my view.

It was the right decision for us as a newly promoted side, as the risks were just too high in the circumstances.
If he is fully fit, & match fit shortly, he will be a serious asset for Everton though. My understanding is that Chelsea have covered his wages until he is available to play, and the they have a loan with AN OPTION to buy for £30m.
It is worth remembering that he was McKenna's first choice to be our centre forward, with Delap & Hirst to be vying for the role of 60+ minute finisher, and possibly Delap to be used out wide occasionally. This was all on the basis that he was going to return to the player he was 20 months or more ago.
There's not many centre forwards out there with this profile of strength, pace, neat footwork, great with his back to goal for holding possession, turning defenders & layoffs, plus a good natural ability to finish. We have one in Delap, & also in Hirst tbf, but Broja (a fit Broja) definitely fits that profile, which is key to how we play, as we have seen when trying to adapt with Jackson, Broadhead or Al Hamadi up front; we just don't carry the same threat.

Town seem to me unusual in never giving first-team-squad players game-time in the U21s as they come back from a lengthy lay-off. I don't just mean this season, but through the McKenna era. But maybe I've missed some instances.

It was 26 months ago since he got his first knee injury after 32 games at Southampton on loan the previous season where he banged in six goals. He signed a new contract for Chelsea and they quite reasonably want to lay the cost of that off.

Eight appearances for Fulham, zero goals and see you later from them. Not much strength, pace, footwork, possession or turning anything much beyond a swivel chair in the past two years two months and counting then.

Maybe he will rise like a phoenix and do the business. For the player’s sake I hope he does (but not at our expense). But whatever McKenna saw in him, I’m glad the club gave this a swerve when they realised Chelsea were trying to mug them off.

Yes we are desperately short of effective forwards now that Hirst is looking so fragile. I just don’t think another fragile player who at the time had a long term injury was ever the answer.
