I bloody hate this time of the year 18:56 - Dec 1 with 3517 viewsDubtractor

I've never had a diagnosis for SAD, but I'm pretty certain I have it, as I always end up in a bit of a funk in November and December. Having my birthday in November feels like a stitch up.

It's dark, damp and miserable, and gets more so with each passing day. I have precisely zero motivation to do anything, and it's the same every single year.

Anyone else suffer with the Autumn blues?

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

I often think I suffer with SAD but funnily enough I love November and December, and the whole build up to Christmas. I really struggle in January & February. I could genuinely hibernate for those 2 months straight.

Yup. I notice a significant drop in mood around mid-October every year and get excessively tired and frequently get sick with colds that end up as bronchitis or sinusitis. Those are all symptoms of SAD.

I find it helps to take vitamin supplements over the winter, and make myself go outside on sunny days. Also, remind yourself that it won't last forever, and you will come out the other side.

Sending you good vibes for the winter, Dubbers.

You should get a diagnosis as this obviously affects you. I think I've seen you post this several times before

I live for September to end of December.

Sorry to hear this though. Have you looked at those light therapy lamps? No idea if they work or whether it's a gimmick but they seem to have good reviews. Also make sure you're getting some vitamin D.

Ha, I'm nothing if not consistent!

Tbh, I think I get to the end of October each year, feel OK, and kid myself this year will be better, and then a month later its all gone wrong again.

Thanks to J2, Hugoagogo and inbetweener too.

I'm fine, it's not like I'm in a doom filled rut or anything, I just feel utterly lethargic and lack enthusiasm to do anything!

The dampness. Having just landed in blighty, the dampness, farking hell. Why is it so wet here? (I know why). But yes the grey and the wet and the gloom is tough to deal with.

Sorry to hear that, definitely good to talk about it so keep doing so. DM is always open.

I’ve felt a bit unwell for a week or more now which is getting me down a bit and had me feeling low on energy and generally a bit crap. In being ill it’s meant I’ve not been able to run or get in the gym either which is a double whammy.

Other way round for me. I loathe everything about Nov and Dec, esp Christmas and the two-month build up to it, but once we get to Jan 1st I’m fine - days are getting longer, snowdrops are coming out, other new growth is coiled like a spring, and there’s one in my step!

Have you got an air fryer?

I’ve not, but people seem to talk about them a lot and get very excited too.

I would wait until the spring...they are a little too easy to use and cook junk food very quickly. Not good for those long cold winter nights.

Slow cookers on the other hand - perfect for tough cuts of meat, pea soup, chickpeas, spuds, root veg etc., giving out a luscious smell while they cook - both physically and psychologically warming!

I’m with you.

Absolutely hate this time of year, have done for years. Go to work in the dark and come home in the dark.

Miserable cold days.

Christmas chucked in your face from early November.

The days do start to draw out in a couple of weeks though but January and February are usually the worst months to endure.

Sorry to hear this mate, hope you’re looking after yourself.

I find my depressive episodes hit hard in the winter more than ever, which you’ll no doubt not be surprised about because I’m a whining pr*ck.

Hug a loved one. I have been hugging my cat for about an hour now.

Totally agree. Difficult time of year, even Christmas doesn’t really give any relief as it is also full of pressure too.

Keep positive one and all.

I refuse to buy one simply because they are popular. Maybe Dub could get into cast iron pans instead? Put years of mixing records on his double turntables into seasoning his cookware?

I feel your pain. I've been on nights for the last month and it's hitting hard. October and November are objectively the WORST months. It' gets darker, colder and wetter and carries on like that for 6 months.

My lovely colleagues now genuinely make allowances for me and I usually look to mitigate it by having a cheeky away trip to father-in-law(in Portugal) in these months and taking vitamin D supplements.

Mrs Badger bought one of those ninja ones. To be fair, they make terrific stews as well.
