Have you actually seen what Morsy is refusing to support.... 09:45 - Dec 3 with 5228 views | Hogger | Here is what the armband campaign is about, from the Premier League site: "A key focus of the partnership with Stonewall encourages LGBT+ acceptance among children and young people involved in community and education initiatives such as Premier League Primary Stars and Premier League Kicks, and within Academies. Coaches, teachers and leaders are equipped with bespoke resources and programmes developed by the League and Stonewall which promote positive attitudes towards the LGBT+ community." I honestly don't understand how so many people on this site find it acceptable that Sam refuses to support this initiative based on his religion. Would you say the same if it was one of those right-wing evangelical Christians doing the same? By doing so, he is drawing attention to the intolerance of some, not all, Muslims to accepting same-sex relationships. That's not a matter of free speech but intolerant speech and it is not the role of a captain to advocate that in my opinion. [Post edited 3 Dec 2024 9:46]

The heat is on Morsy, which I get, I also do appreciate this thread, but the club itself has escaped criticism which imo is wrong as they could have easily prevented this. |
I don’t know why we’ve got another thread on this, but as we have I think that’s a ridiculous idea. Not only because the club would risk breaking the Equality Act by doing so, but think of how that would affect moral in the club if they treated him that way (one of the most supportive players in the club by all accounts and a big part of why we have such good dressing room). The club are doing the best thing by not getting drawn into it. We’ll move on in no time (until this is all repeated next year).

They woudn't be risking anything with the equality act as the club and the manager are within their rights to make who ever they want as captain when ever they wish to do so, for what ever reason they wish to do so. It wouldn't have effected the moral of the group if it was done correctly either, Chappers has done a lot of work with the LGBTQ group, they could have had a good chat with both players and said for these fixtures we'd like to share our support by having our captain wearing the armband, it respects Morsy's wishes not too whilst backing up their support rather than just words after the event. Morsy could have then issued a public statement of support for the armband going to chappers, or Burns, or who ever.

Oh do expand on this valuable nugget of insight. What part has socialism, given we have not had a true socialist government, played in restricting our freedom? The freedom retained by fighting nazis, the extreme right.
