LGBTQ+ Player Recruitment 12:17 - Dec 3 with 3315 viewswithyblue

Given recent events, I’m concerned about the club’s ability to recruit LGBTQ+ players for both the first team and youth teams. If ITFC is approaching gay players for our first team or academy, they might question whether the club captain will be welcoming, as his decision not to wear the armband doesn’t reflect a supportive attitude toward the LGBTQ+ community.

If he chooses not to wear it, as is his personal right, he should take steps to show that, as our on-field leader and representative of the first team, he is genuinely welcoming and supportive of LGBTQ+ players. Otherwise our ability to attract gay players in the transfer market might be hindered, and any LGBTQ+ youth players coming through the academy might be tempted to look elsewhere.

I think this whole scenario shows that things can be done better (by all those involved) and that learning how to make things better needs people to work together.

In a weird way, attempts to make things better, introducing Rainbow Laces matches and protecting Morsy's religious beliefs, have created a problem. It's how we learn and progress from these situations that shows if we are improving.

Ignoring who is 'right' and who is 'wrong', I am sure the club, Morsy and even Stonewall have recognized things that can be done differently this week. Listening to the incredibly brave share on here yesterday helped me to understand things much better and I hope these moments are heard by the club.

Like I said, it's all about talking and listening to each other and not blaming or speculating.

Christ.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

Yeah that's an interesting question. I would speculate that although footballers might retire from playing professionally they often stay as part of the whole football eco-system, whether that's as a professional coach, coaching in the amateur game, punditry etc. So retiring from playing professionally doesn't often allow a true escape from the environment that made it so difficult to come out.

On top of that, the older someone gets, the more complicated it can be to come out. They might have built up a family or social circle that’s always seen them as straight, so breaking that image can feel even harder than it would for someone younger.

i agree with all of that, but it is surprising that there don't seem to be any ex p[layers who have since come out publicly. not as many as you'd otherwise expect might make sense, but almost none is quite odd.

And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

Read the longest thread on the board at the moment and then you might realise what a stupid post this is.
