Just coming out the Arsenal 22:52 - Dec 27 with 5075 viewsMullet

Hard to know what to make of that. A defeat is a defeat, Wolves really rubbed salt into the wound yesterday too.

Phillips is an enigma. The quality was there tonight, it’s all about his belief isn’t it? He looked at it and fancied it and it makes a difference, he and Cajuste really stand out. Likewise, we changed the defence and looked really well drilled. The shape, the movement, the job on odegaard deserved more. But that goal was disappointing, woolfy made a bizarre decision for me, Johnson sends his man the right way an average cross comes in, and Woolfy looked to me like he could have headered it.

You could see Arsenal getting frustrated and there were moments you felt the corruption conspiracy theories might make sense. Fouls and 50:50s just not going our way ever. There are also some people turning up to games forgetting players like Saliba and Gabriel are up there with anyone right now. Delap, Omari et al aren’t just going to blast through them no matter how much we wanted them to. Hearing them slating and getting on the backs of our lot was disappointing. Hopefully I just got unlucky to be close enough to hear it all game.

Whilst it feels like we might be getting forced back down by the sheer weight of the task to survive, I did think there was a flexibility from McKenna tactically and in terms of mental attitude we’ve not seen at this level. Whether it was pragmatism from who was available or the humbling from Newcastle, it felt a very different team to the one that crumpled at West Ham for example.

As for the emirates, that was my first visit. You can see why people love this type of stadium, it’s all very computer game looking, there’s a bit of a theme park feel with the different overpriced kiosks and toilet blocks outside etc but the tourists and the like is not for me. I didn’t even use my padded seat because people came over for a chat at half time. As for that dreadful song they sing at kickoff…… made the Etihad feel like Galatasary away.

Woolfy should have done better with cross to be honest. He got his body shape all wrong but other than that, he did fine. Same for Greaves. Body shape wrong forctye goal but generally ok. As Matty Holland said, first half our shape was good, just our execution when we got possession was very poor. 2nd half, as McKenna observed, we got into plenty of decent positions but eitger made poor decisions or were not brave enough to create a good chance.
I'd like to see the formation develop more over a few games. Johnson doesn't offer enough for me. Harry Clarke could thrive in that formation. Where would Axel fit? O'Shea central, Axel right, Greaves / Burgess left would be my choice.
Phillips and Cajuste looked good but Morsy still has to be in there, doesn’t he?
Hutch is the outlet, just tonight his decision making was generally miles off. I wantvto see him drive at the box whenever he can far more.
I love what Delap offers but the one thing George Hirst does better than him is hold the ball up. Tonight that would have been pricekess.
Szmodics works so hard but he looks half a yard short sometimes. Jack Clarke needs something to go right. Taylor could really be the surprise for me if he were to get a run. Broady gives us something in the positions he finds. Muric was decent. Leif was ok defensively but had a few opportunities to put the ball in and messed it up.
All in all, there's something to build on with this shape.
Could hear Town fans quite a bit on TV.

First off - hope you’re well fella.

I actually think Morsy is the weakest of the three (understandably so given his career) but psychologically he and Phillips are poles apart. Morsy gives us another 5% drive so often but if we got last nights Phillips for the rest of the season, we’d go some way to making up for how poor he’s been.

Got very frustrated with some around me constantly berating Hutchinson, Muric, Johnson whoever until they did something good rather than appreciating the performance etc. I think we need a bit of a reset in January anyway and treat it like a chase to survival.

'Corporate' is the best way to describe that stadium. Made to be a venue rather than a football stadium.

RE the goal, I actually think it's Johnson and O'Shea at blame. Johnson gets done for the cross and O'Shea who is doubling up guesses that he is cutting in so makes no attempt to block.

Stop the cross, stop the goal.

Bang on about the tactical flexibility. We need to play the same way at home though and add some much needed quality pretty much all the way accross the front line.

Thought Johnson did the right thing overall. He stopped the man going inside with a chance to shoot. It’s not his fault the guy clipped it from the byline and Havertz capitalised for me. I’m looking centrally for that.

But it does show the quality on offer and how only one chance can be fatal. Given what we limited Arsenal to, the shame is we did less in front of their goal.

Perhaps I should but I haven't put it on here as it felt a bit look at me-ish but as of 6th December the cancer is 'currently undetectable' and I'm officially 'in remission'. Can't quite believe it. 11 months of Chemotherapy, a 5 hour operation and 20 sessions of 'radical radiotherapy ' has done me in but I now have a chance both I and the Oncologist knew was only about 20% possibility after the initial diagnosis. Thank you for remembering and asking .
With a bit more belief in the final third, we could've nicked a point. Getting Hirst back is vital for me. Phillips should be nailed on but the fact we all expect Morsy back in shows how little genuine impact he has had so far. Cajuste is a baller though.

Goal purely down to dreadful defending by a Johnson. Does he ever stop a cross. Otherwise agree with your thoughts.

Totally agree - my nan has more pace than him and does he not realise that it is actually his job to at least attempt to block any cross put in by an opponent. Axel and Harry would not have allowed that cross.

Johnson let in the same number of crosses szmodics and davis did on the opposite side. Coincidentally it was a cross from the opposite side in the lead up to the cross that ended up coming In from johnsons side.

Crosses come into the box alot from both sides of the pitch.

My point was Johnson was slow and made no effort to block the cross that lead to the goal- I was never counting crosses from other areas that never lead to any goals.

Szmodics wasn't great allowing the cross in that began that phase.

Johnson wasn't great I agree. However we as a team do allow a large number of crosses into the box. Those saying h clarke wouldn't have allowed it are having a laugh. Axel is different. Now he would get stuck in but he is prem quality.
