We needed “something” out of the Newcastle/Arsenal/Chelsea group of games 22:20 - Dec 30 with 707 viewspatrickswell

and it’s brilliant that we got a win tonight. Keeps us in touch, will be huge for confidence and shows those sides above us that they can’t afford to take us for granted.

Brilliant stuff!

We seem to raise our game against the better teams. I wonder if we'd be better being 110% up for the lower half teams. There's more of them and we'd have more chance of picking up points.

Not that I'm going to complain of course, but we seem to want to do it the hard way.

It also shows that it doesn't matter so much that we've not picked up the best set of results against those around us. We need 35 points, it doesn't matter who we manage to get them from. Obviously, it makes life easier if we take points off our rivals but it's not the be-all-and-end-all of it.

Lower-level Prem teams are better at tight defending and hard pressing. It's what they have to do to stay in the division.

It's also what we find hardest to play against.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Thought one of the best things about the Wolves game was how we handled the tension of that match better than them, which may be easier to do as the away team, and could be vital when we go to Leicester, Palace, Everton (and Man Utd) etc in the coming months.

The Wolves game at PR could have a little bit of edge to it. We will be expected to beat Southampton - in the same way that they would have had September’s game marked down as an expected victory. God knows what it’ll be like if ourselves vs West Ham is a winner takes all affair on the last day.

Yes, fair point. They're very different games to the last two where we're just looking to capitalise on two or three breaks.

Must you analyse EVERYTHING so insightfully? :)

Love you Guthers.

Incidentally, just read 'The White Ship' by Charles Spencer - what a great piece of narrative history writing.
