The thing about Chelsea — and it’s just the way it is — 22:36 - Dec 30 with 1126 views | thebooks | is that they always were, currently are, and indeed always will be, a deeply unpleasant team, which makes any victory over them even sweeter

Ruining hundreds of players careers by doing the football equivalent of the land-banking that all the other dirty Russian money does in London. Supported by angry middle aged men who think John Terry is a role-model. But apart from that, why wouldn't you want your kid to sign for them?

Cucurella is particularly odious. The incident with Omari in the first half was very close to me. I haven’t seen it back but I don’t think Hutchinson even touched him. The man with the school caretakers mop on his head went down like he’d been shot. Oh the rolling around, slapping if the turf, the agony. Seconds later after it was clear the Ref wasn’t buying it he was up smiling at the ref saying god knows what and a few seconds after that he was bombing down the pitch. He had tried to get Omari set off. He cheated and got dogs abuse for it, not that he cared. There is something deeply unsavoury about one player trying to get a fellow pro sent off. People like Shearer will say ‘part of the game’. It shouldn’t be. There was a time many years ago when somebody like Allan Hunter would have dished out something to roll around for if a player had tried that. They were good at the dark arts as most PL teams are. Chelsea fans? ‘You’re only here for the Chelsea’. Yeah right. Their dirty looking kit was a bit bilious too. [Post edited 30 Dec 2024 23:45]
