Johnnie Walker - RIP 16:41 - Dec 31 with 1443 views | WinchBlue | Well I’ll be raising a glass to Johnnie Walker tonight. His Sounds of the Seventies was my Sunday afternoon staple for many years.

Johnnie Walker - RIP on 17:21 - Dec 31 with 1291 views | Whos_blue | Although we all knew this was on the cards it's still very sad news. A thoroughly decent fella and a great broadcaster. Will be much missed. Go well Johnnie.

Johnnie Walker - RIP on 17:25 - Dec 31 with 1275 views | Zx1988 | Been listening to Sounds of the 70s on the drive back from London, which was meant to be a 70s party playlist and is now a very touching tribute to JW. It would seem that Bob Harris only found out as he was about to go on air - such amazing professionalism to keep it all together whilst paying tribute to his pal in such circumstances. The clip they played of Johnnie's final sign-off during his obit on the 5pm news was absolutely heartbreaking.

A legend. The background sound to my teens . Radio Caroline on my tranny in bed.
Johnnie Walker - RIP on 19:00 - Dec 31 with 1141 views | stringy | Via his late 1970's / early 80's Radio Luxembourg shows I discovered a ton of great bands, not least the Dead Kennedys which I guess was part-due to his time in SF; very much associate him with the Peel era, good bloke.
Johnnie Walker - RIP on 19:02 - Dec 31 with 1134 views | Radlett_blue | Not so sure about this. Mr Walker used to phone my home, wanting to speak to my sister, who was a big fan & wrote him letters but she was only 14 years old.

I made a comment on a BBC website that was talking about a new Ford Escort that is being made. I described during the 70's wedging my tranny in between the top of the seat and the seat belt hanger. But it would only make a sound when I drove north/south. Anything of east or west in it and I lost signal. My comment was banned for using the "t" word. The world has gone mad. Thanks for the memories Johnny [Post edited 1 Jan 8:56]

Johnnie Walker - RIP on 10:59 - Jan 1 with 810 views | DJR | He stood in for Terry Wogan on quite a few occasions and in my view would have been a worthy successor, being both laid-back and very funny in the role. Instead, they opted for shouty and rather humourless DJs as replacements for the Radio 2 breakfast show, in an effort to win a younger but still ageing audience. [Post edited 1 Jan 13:09]

Rock'n'Roll Radio by the Ramones nicely captures listening to radio in bed, something I started doing with Radio Luxemburg (being a bit too young for Radio Caroline Mk. 1). Do you remember lying in bed With your covers pulled up over your head? Radio playin' so one can see [Post edited 1 Jan 13:22]
