Their previous excuse of not being a PL club won’t work this time at least.

They need a profit of £99m in the year ending 2024, which seems highly unlikely because the sales ( and compensation) only total £63m plus they also bought Winks and Cody, although those may be in the next years accounts. Given that they humiliated the PL over last years accounts, I’d say a deduction is highly likely - shame.

I'm not convinced they will accrue enough points to keep them above the drop zone even before deductions. Everton are the ones that I am really interested in.

And Man City. If Everton and Forest had points deductions for one offence, City should have enough deducted to make relegation a certainty. We all know it won’t happen though.

Punishments seem to depend on how important a club is and how good their lawyers are than rules, right and wrong etc. It’s been that way since West Ham escaped points deduction or demotion for playing unregistered players (Tevez and Mascherino) in 2006. Those players were the difference between survival and relegation. On the face of it, West Ham were considered more important to the Premier League brand than Sheffield United who were relegated and with whom West Ham later settled out of court. The cynic in me says that the PL won’t dare take on Man City. Leicester? I doubt it. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Exactly. Does the Premier League need Ipswich Town? No. So there's no point hoping they'll do us a favour and start chucking teams into the relegation zone. No doubt Leicester will eventually get their punishment when they're in the Championship and we'll start this bizarre legal battle all over again where they claim it doesn't matter because they weren't in the league any more. That way the Prem looks like they've handed out punishments, without actually having to hand them out. Win/win for everyone.
