January recruitment strategy 09:22 - Jan 7 with 2502 views | ZapatasMoustache | Looks to me like McKenna/Ashton are trying to assemble a stronger bench/rotation as much as anything. There have been elements of this in previous windows of course, but it seems like the best risk-reward calculation halfway through a tough prem season. You don’t need to radically change the starting eleven or the team’s tactics, but getting sone incremental gains for the last half hour of games would be great. Godfrey seems likely to displace Clarke; Matic would presumably replace Luongo; Doak or Jesus (or similar) would see AAH go on loan etc. I think it’s the right approach - when we play well, and well for 90+ minutes, we’re good enough to stay up. This approach makes that much likelier without disrupting the team too much.

January recruitment strategy on 10:37 - Jan 7 with 1875 views | Marshalls_Mullet | The Matic link didnt seem to be from a good source. We already have 2 midfielders who struggle to do 90 mins, plus a 33 year old Morsy. I dont think Matic is what we need.

Not sure about that. He’d be able to come on at 65 and press/harry up top if needs be, plus Hirst is back imminently

Fair enough re source but I can see the only midfield addition we make being an experienced Luongo replacement who can play a calm role for 25m as sub

I asked about it and didn't get any encouragement on it. Think probably the McKenna link. Don't see that we need him as it stands. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

he's never been the most athletic midfielder either at his peak, let alone at 36. Only reason would be for some premier league experience but why would we waste a spot in the squad for that.
