We’ve paid some big fees. We need to be able to get some in the door for 3,4,5,6 million pounds as Brighton and Brentford have done as this spending isn’t sustainable over a longer period.

Easier said than done of course but happier with this signing than Clarkes in the summer feels like a better fit for us but time will obviously tell on that.

Why wouldn't he increase in value?

6 months ago he was a player who'd only appeared in the championship.

Now he's had 11 premierleague appearences and trained as a premierleague player since rejoining villa and has years of growth potential.

If you buy hutchinson for 20 mill after a champ season then philogoene with prem appearences has to be worth more.

That's easy - his value hasn't gone up, but Hull were in a worse negotiating position than Villa now are.
