Time to stick with an XI? 19:59 - Jan 19 with 893 viewsgsoly

Judging by today's matchday squad (and those left out), our fitness/injury situation is beginning to settle. Is it perhaps time for McKenna to pick his preferred team and give them a run? Next week, like today, is a free hit - then we're into a huge February, with a solid week between most games.

I do worry that with the increased pressure on games/results, those who come in for one game are on a hiding to nothing. If they don't put in an 8/10 performance, they're likely to lose the shirt again.

New signings Godfrey and Jaden will only settle quickly if they're played through any shaky showings.

We still don't have that luxury I think.

Axel & Hirst only just returning, 2 new players to bed in, Chappers & SS still out injured, still hoping to bring a 9 in etc.

I do think some consistency would help.

I agree, but unlike the past couple of years, I bet everyone will have a slightly different idea for the settled line up. And I'm sure McKenna is leaning one way then the other as well. It's partly why Guardiola likes a small squad.

Yes, for me there's too much chopping and changing. I know we've suffered with injuries and I understand when we have games in quick succession like the 2 this week but we're making 4-5 changes every game, which really can't help with the team understanding each others game.

I feel like it's time for him just to commit though. Back your decisions, play your signings, and give them four games. We don't have another mid-week game until late Feb.

I don't think you play the same team against Liverpool as you do against Southampton.

Against Liverpool you want an "Emirates" type of line up. Against Southampton, far more attacking.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Excluding injuries, we could field an entire 'new signings' XI...

Muric, Godfrey, O'Shea, Greaves, Johnson, Phillips, Cajuste, Townsend, Philogene, J Clarke, Delap

Or an entire 'last season XI' if we wanted to as well.

Walton, Tuanzebe, Woolfenden, Burgess, Burns, Morsy, Taylor, Davis, Hutchinson, Broadhead, Hirst

The question is how to merge the two.
