Unfortunately he seems destined to be one of those Keane/Jewell era players we signed where, on paper, they were very good and should be one of the first names on the team sheet. The player the got to us and had a poor spell and moved on.

No time for the blame game. Virtually every Town player has made a mistake this season. Whether it's the wrong pass, missing a goal scoring chance, leaving space in behind them or not tracking back, dropping a ball or letting a shot go under them or in at the near post. Apparently the Chelsea keeper made a hash of a cross last night and the Man Utd keeper also made a mistake that led to a goal. Anyone who hasn't made a mistake hasn't done anything. I have made many mistakes in my life. Buying things I have lost thousands on, marrying my first wife, doing jobs I didn't like rather than one's I would have. Getting rid of my Dinky toys and a football game I had when I was young. Buying several cars that were rubbish. There's most likely many more mistakes I have made. So I won't be slagging off others for their mistakes.

Someone made a fantastic point yesterday about many of the best performing players in the championship last year and how they have struggled in the Prem. For example, Summerville at West Ham who has arguably the best player last season but found it tough this year.

The gap is huge but at least we will be very well set for next year should the worst happen. With the squad that we have assembled, I think we are a much stronger outfit next season regardless of the outcome.

Yes, agreed - people think of teams (like us) having a big jump, but that’s because it’s a big jump for all the individual players too!

Looking at the Team of the Season (which Clarke didn’t even make)…

Hermansen
Walker-Peters
Ampadu
Greaves
Davis
Dewsbury-Hall
Sara
Whittaker
Szmodics
Summerville
Rutter

Hermansen was doing well until his injury, but Davis is the only one now consistently starting for a Premier League side, and he’s obviously found it challenging at times too.

I don’t include KWP in that, as playing for Southampton barely counts as a Prem side really!

Bit harsh - he had a lovely break through the middle in the first 10 minutes (I thought it was Delap breaking until he made the pass to Delap!) - but that was a glimpse…

Exactly right - I hope someone’s reminding him of that. It’s a much more reliable indicator of his potential than the misplaced pass.

Unfortunately we’re at a time and a level where we can’t be patiently giving him opportunities, but when he does play (particularly his starts at home, I’d say), there are flashes of it, if he can adapt to that #10 role.

Even more unfortunately for him, I expect those chances will become a lot more uncommon with Philogene now on board, Broadhead’s form and Szmodics back though.

Part of me does wonder about him at RW still. He’s a touchline player, a good athlete.. maybe just lacks the strength / physicality of Burns.

Godfrey made a point of going up to him. Hutchinson was walking back into position and put his hand out to him. Similar to Davis I think.

It was more than one Godfrey and Hutch and several others later on and at the end of the match ! No big story.

Also had a decent bit of footwork and a shot on target, I thought he looked much improved in our 20 min spell, then all went pear shaped.

Also think was good against Brighton when came on, will be quality in championship if the worst happens

The only Muff in Town.

Many players struggle when signing for a new club regardless of whether they are stepping up a level. We need to give Clarke, Szmodics and co time.

Delap has stepped up a level nicely while changing clubs so that happens too. I would also argue there are a good number of our squad who have stepped up well without changing clubs.
