B teams in lower leagues 11:29 - Jan 23 with 1008 views | Mark | A proposal for the women's game this time. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jan/23/fa-proposes-introduction-of-wsl I am fundamentally opposed to B teams being allowed into any proper competitions, be it women's leagues or men's Papa John's Trophy. Fans should oppose this and not let it creep into the game, as to me it destroys what football is all about.
B teams in lower leagues on 12:55 - Jan 23 with 902 views | Sharkey | Doesn't bother me in tbe Papa John''s at all. I'd say it has worked well. Means the L1 or 2 team gets two home games, and only has to travel once. Brings e.g. West Ham fans to the Colchester ground, and maybe some will come back. Gives L1 and L2 teams a chance fo scout players who are't going to make it at PL level. In theory it may have sounded bad, but in practice it hasn't done any harm at all, in my opinion. For a PL U21 team to actually get to Wembley, they would have to be an exceptional bunch, and well worth seeing.
B teams in lower leagues on 16:29 - Jan 23 with 791 views | TexacoCup | They've messed around with women's football over the past decade or so, parachuting 'top clubs' into the WSL at the expense of the traditional women's teams at the top level. It doesn't feel right but it's difficult to argue that it hasn't improved women's football overall.

I really dislike how the WSL seems to have been inorganically fixed to have the women's teams of the men's PL's "Big Six" as its own set of top clubs.

It also encourages and enables the hording of players by big clubs at the expense of others. It is bad.

How does it enable the hoarding? Don't get me wrong, I'm basically in agreement with your sentiment, - and I don't think players should be allowed to own more than a certain number of players. At the moment the big clubs have players sprinkled all over the leagues. I just can't see how the Papa John's or whatever it's called contributes to the hoarding. It's basically the players who haven't (yet) been sent out on loan. I can't see that the PL clubs make any money at all out of the competition.
