Did we not want to show our hand to Southampton? 19:49 - Jan 25 with 1898 viewsRIPbobby

One thing I kind of noticed the last 2 matches against insanely good teams is that I don't think we played to our full potential. I think we were going through the motions for pretty much all of both games. Which I don't think is a bad thing really as we probably still would have lost going full tilt at them. We didn't look our ultra physical selves in these matches. Apart from the badly mistimed 'tackle' by Enciso. So hopefully we give Saints both barrells next Sat.

We've lost confidence. I'm really worried if we go 1-0 behind next week

I'm not sure that's the case overall - up until the 60th minute or so against Brighton we were looking very much at home in this league, having just played Chelsea and Fulham.

I do think we have a huge problem in that we're far too easy to play against if we concede first, and that's been the case all season, which means I share the fears of your second sentence!

For all means and purposes we have to smash Southampton next weekend. Their star player Dibling is out, they haven’t recruited as many as us and we did the double over them last season. Anything less than a win means we have regressed and it will probably be curtains for us

Trouble is against Brighton once that first goal went in our heads dropped. Hence my point about Southampton scoring first.

I'd say there's a big difference to conceding first to City or Liverpool than if that was to happen against Southampton. I'm not sure it's a confidence problem, we were just completely second best and overwhelmed. Even against Brighton I'd say their game play after the goal was more a factor.

It's ripe for being 2-0 down after 20 minutes.

Just to be clear - are you actually suggesting we deliberately didn’t play as well as we could just so we could lull S’ton into a false sense of security?

I can’t imagine any scenario where that would be true.

And for those saying we need to batter S’ton, they’ve played really well in the recent games they’ve lost. They’ve got a bigger goal threat than us as well. Both of us are in the losing habit. It’s going to be a really tough match against two evenly matched sides. And this time we don’t have Sarmiento.

We don't have to batter them, buts it's a must win game.
