He has done well for West Brom , part of a defence that was top of clean sheets last season and 11 shut outs this term.
He is very quickly going to learn He no longer has a solid back 4 in front of him.
Muric has quite successfully taken the spotlight from a back line which veers from trying to keep possession to making disastrous decisions in front of our own goal.
Alot of people pointed out the mis-control by Muric on Saturday, very few noticed the options the defender had instead of passing back to the keeper with a very fast striker running toward him. The safe option is so often turned down by our defenders in favour of trying to be clever and building from the back , which 90% of the time ends up with losing the ball before it gets to half way line. Especially against the better teams. Very few clear cut chances against Southampton and the goal we did get wasn't ftom a patient build up, how many have been this season?
More wrong with the team than the inevitable scapegoat we all like to find.

I foresee the defence solidifying quite quickly once they’re calmed by knowing they can rely on a keeper who doesn’t have at least one howler per game.

I would like to think so. But only so many keepers you can keep putting behind them.

Biggest problem we have now and lately has been the inability for LD to hold the ball up top himself because he has no support near him.

Midfield too ponderous and the No 10’s no great muscle / strength , just the ability to run fast with the ball into a dead end

I really wanted a hustle and bustle midfielder this window more than anything but alas ….

We’ve got what we’ve got and I fully expect KMcK to make the best of what we’ve got from now until the end of their season

Completely with you on that. Personally I think central midfield has been our biggest weakness this season, don’t cover the defence adequately and too ponderous getting the ball forward.

Bit of a take. Fact is if he doesn't flap at a pretty innocuous volley for the first goal, from their first foray into our box, then I very much doubt we lose that game. Not sure how you blame the defence's shortcomings in playing out for that. If anything I thought we did that much better on Sat, albeit due to SH's weaker press. I guess we'll see but as others have said i suspect the defence will if anything feel more confident with someone less erratic behind them.

Not sure I entirely agree with this. Park the Liverpool, city and Newcastle games, as they were games where we were completely outclassed.

Outside of those we've really not been giving away too many chances in games in the last few months.

Southampton had 4 shots on target, 2 went in, and one was saved into the path of the striker for goal 2.

Neither of our keeper has been making save after save recently, nor needed to. We let in far too many of the shots against us.

None of that changes the fact that we need to be better across the rest of the pitch, but we've really not been leaving keepers exposed to a barrage of shots on goal in most games.

He won't change but may be time for a ridgid 433, with CAJUSTE the forward midfielder more skillful than Morsy phillips, that way the defence has more protection, and cover wide when defending, let the three who ever he chooses make their defence think more,
