I think it's generally acknowledged that the PL is becoming a closed shop and we'll soon be at the point where the same teams are promoted/relegated each season.

If that's the case, will players start to rotate between promoted and relegated teams each season too? i.e. top Championship player, but not wanted by established PL teams.

O'Shea swapped Burnley for Ipswich so is an example of this. And if we're relegated, the likelihood is Leif, O'Shea, Szmodics, Philogene, Broady and J Clarke will only be attractive to a promoted team.

We are at that point now. Will be interesting to see how Leeds do next season but suspect they will go down along with Sheff U and Burnley.

I think Leeds will stay up if they are promoted. They have a very good squad at the moment and some improvements over the summer will make them into a very competitive team in the PL.

Can’t see Burnley, Sheff Utd or Sunderland staying up though.

To answer the OP, yes, of course, players will move clubs to play in the PL. Unfortunately many of our players aren’t PL standard and are therefore less likely to leave with the exception of Delap.

Some years ago Harry Rednapp predicted the promoted clubs would be relegated each year. He thought they would then playoff with the relegated clubs eventually dropping down to 1 down 1 up

Is it quite such a closed shop? Still not guaranteed that the 3 promoted teams will go down this season.

The 3 teams that were promoted and started the 22/23 season were Forest, Bournemouth, and Fulham.

It might appear to be a closed shop. It really depends on squads. Bournemouth did stay up but were effectively a YoYo team.

Forest are the team to break the mould, they managed it with defensive football and Steve Cooper did a brilliant job.

Our trouble is basically our squad wasn't ready and our manager wasn't ready. Although we tried the Forest method, it might have to be the Bournemouth method. Its a shame how its shaping up, Goalkeeper looks to be a very important position, and thats the mistake we made in our last season in the Premiership too.

Leeds may have the squad needed. But again what Premiership team is weak enough to go down? Thats the other aspect, its so competitive they all beat each other and beat the lower sides also.

On the point about what Prem team is weak enough to go down I don't think anyone at the start of the season that Leicester got relegated would have thought they would. Southampton were also a fairly solid Prem set up for a long period. I think there will always be the odd team who will significantly underperform or have stuff going on behind the scenes that causes them to fail. If the Everton takeover hadn't gone through when it did then they might have been the team this season.
