Why still so deflated? 05:41 - Feb 8 with 1301 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | When we played Coventry & Huddersfield last season, I promised the football gods that if results went our way I would accept relegation from the PL, safe in the knowledge that the TV money would transform our club and put us in a much stronger position in 2025/26. So why do I still feel so deflated about the Soton performance/result and our almost inevitable relegation? I think it's a combination of things: * 12 signings (16 incl. loan players) mean I no longer recognise our team * team spirit and 'running towards adversity' has vanished * Delap, O'Shea, Szmodics and Hutch aside, we've messed up our recruitment * Walton, Woolfy, Burgess and Broady haven't been given a fair crack of the whip * we're not improving, our performances are getting worse * performances & atmosphere were really poor against Everton, Palace and Brighton Sorry for the negative post. Yes there are 14 matches left and 1 win changes the narrative, but I can't help feeling that we've wasted an opportunity this season, even though it was always going to be difficult. Hopefully a win today against Coventry will bring back some feel-good factor...

We cannot let that tough period define our season, it is now out the way and the worst is behind us. We will reset and look at the next batch of fixtures with fresh perspective.

Why still so deflated? on 06:58 - Feb 8 with 1151 views | smithy69 | The reality is, I don’t think any of us really realised what a huge step up it is to the premier league. I certainly didn’t You give anyone a chance and they seem to score 90% of the time. It’s genuinely shocked me at how clinical teams are , and how big , strong and fast everyone is From a transfer point of view I think you are being slightly harsh. Cajuste has been a marked improvement on anything we had before. Ogbene looked impressive before injury. Philogene is being written off after 2 small appearances , which is ridiculous for such a highly rated England under 21 player. Greaves is an upgrade on burgess. Townsend looks solid for me in his small amount of game time and I think will slot in next year of Leif leaves, alongside the ones you mentioned. Enciso looks incredibly talented Nothing I’ve seen on videos, or chat, or socials shows the team spirit has changed. They all seem equally together. People think that team spirit gets you wins in the premier league - which may be true slightly- but if we had played our league 1/championship team this season without multiple upgrades, even with perfect team spirit - I would think we would easily be below Southampton It’s been an experience and let’s see what happens for the last 14 games [Post edited 8 Feb 7:03]

I still say we could quite easily have won that one. Once we equalised we were all over them. The 30 minutes after half time there was only 1 winner. But we faded after that and their changes nicked a goal. Had we won it would have still been a similar 90 minutes, but plus 3 points. Small margins.

IF KM is invested in the 5 years he signed up for and if the owners are invested long term as they say then this season can be seen as a helpful financial bonus on route to what the club wants it to become. The key thing for me is IF KM is not going to be here next season, that situation needs sorting before we get anywhere near pre season, we need a seamless transition. IF he is staying, great, lets crack on with 2025/2026 when it comes, with a better squad than we had when we started the championship campaign in 2023/2024, with finances that can further improve that squad for an attack to get back to the prem at the first attempt. Should be it happen, we then go into 2026/2027 with a much better foundation to tackle the prem, than we had this summer. It's all IFS, unfortunately at the moment, so frustration grows when we don't win as you desperately want to stay up as if that's achieved then we go again, but the unknowns of what relegation means, breeds the frustation. Let be honest, IF we knew that we'd be back again after 1 season, we wouldn't care at all what the results are in the upcoming games.

I agree with all of that. I think it is because at the moment we still have that hope, but we are burning some golden opportunities to help ourselves. Brighton at home. Started that as technically a game in hand in 17th place. We lost and sunk back into the bottom three. Everton, Leicester, Bournemouth, Brentford so frustrating. Fulham was unfortunate and sloppy in equal measure. Southampton was a real throw the remote control at the telly moment. I reckon if we don't pick the points up in the next couple of months, the mood will shift to acceptance and we'll probably all be on the same page with the perspective thing. It's just at the moment, we feel the table could and probably should look better for us. Then it will be back to hopefully winning more games, maximising the feelgood factor and having another crack at the Prem, minus repeating what have been a few mistakes on and off the pitch. If we're being honest, the double promotion has caught the club and the staff out as much as us. [Post edited 8 Feb 11:20]

At the moment, we are three points off where Luton were last season.
