Palmer on 17:48 - Feb 8 by homer_123 | I think it's actually very simply. Muric's ceiling is far higher than that of Palmer. He's younger and still developing - he has the ability to be a top class goalkeeper. I think it's easy to forget the good stuff he does, whether that be commanding his box, coming for crosses. He 'can' pick a pass and can pull off outstanding saves. Palmer is older and is clearly more in the Walton mould than Muric. Palmer is a safe pair of hands and that isn't a bad thing. So, the answer to your question is 'potential'. Muric has the ability to be an excellent keeper and therefore better for us both on the pitch and potential resale value. For me, that's the answer to your question. There's no doubt though that Muric is having a torrid time with us right now, confidence as much as anything and it's cost us. So, right now, comparing Muric to Palmer, Palmer, like Walton, are the better options. But I can see why we went for Muric, I still think, at 26, he's learning and developing and still has the ability to be a top class keeper. I hope we keep him. |
Personally I think we made an utter out and out balls up on the keeper front and should we go down we can point to this as other than that we are a good enough team to stay up. . Muric may have potential and he is a giant of a man. When he is having a good game he will pluck everything out of the sky with ease....... ...... until the last few minutes when he goes into the Incredible Airhead mode and completely costs you three points - see Brentford and Bournemouth off the top of my head. At his age he will always be an airhead. So many similarities with the last PL rebuild. Sereni was arguably our best ever keeper but was completely the wrong keeper at the wrong time. We should have bought Mart Poom back then but we went for Fancy Pants We needed a Kelvin Davis or a Neil Alexander type. [Post edited 9 Feb 16:10]

Which is fair enough if Muric was good with his feet. Ive no idea what data model ever said he was. We would have been better with Vas.

Palmer on 12:40 - Feb 9 by FrimleyBlue | Thing is muric turned out worse than hoped. Delap turned out probably better than hoped for the first season. Look back to muric last couple seasons. First team burnley promoted no.1 keeper. One of best in league. Last season, played 10 prem games. Majority of fans thought he may have helped them stay up if he played more. His stats were unreal and suited KM football... number of 1 on 1 saves which was key considering we concede a last amount of this situations. One of the best keepers at claiming balls.. again key considering we seem to allow alot of crosses into the box plus corners are won against us alot in the prem too. So another key stat. KM has mentioned murics injury a few times this season. No idea how much this has effect him but his stats at least did support his signing. |
His stats were good but he's miles behind Hladky with the ball at his feet, mind you we'll never find another Hladky on the ball, said it many times, I don't think Palmer is a huge upgrade either but I don't mind that as long as his decision making is good and he chooses to punt long when he needs too..

Think that's where the stats may have ruined things. https://footystats.org/players/montenegro/arijanet-muric Weird thing is. He had terrible pass completion figures. Maybe KM felt he could sort this?

Good link that cheers, I think if he was brought in as a number two then i could understand that, KM could work with him over a period of time, because I honestly think this part of his game has really effected his confidence, we needed someone solid and ready to go, though it's so hard to find a keeper that ticks every single box, that's the problem..
