Off to a stag do in Gdansk in April and I'm on the "organising" commitee.

Got lots of stuff planned - Lechia Gdansk home game and a 5 a side footy pitch hired out being two of the highlights.

Has anyone on here been and got any "local" knowledge I can apply to the trip? Good local activities, places to go/avoid?

Its a classic stag group mix so I wouldn't rule any suggestions out as someone in the group is likely to be interested in it!

Thanks in advance.

It's a beautiful city centre, ideal for walking around and the World War Two museum should be open now if you want to find out how Poland won it ..

The museum has been open a few years now, is well worth a visit. Tho the video on the way out is (or was) a bit interesting.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

Sopot and its beach are a short train ride away. Look out for the statue of the bear.

A number of good museums, if you like history. The WWII one WWZ mentioned, Westerplatte at the mouth of the harbour where the first shots were fired. The Post Office in the town, scene of heavy fighting. Also the former Lenin Shipyard, scene of the Solidarity trade union strikes in the 1980s, led by Lech Walensa.

We took a day trip out to Malbork Castle, very impressive (if reconstructed from wartime damage).

Loads of good bars in and around the centre. Lots of good eateries (I enjoyed Pierogarnia Stary Mlyn, behind the big church).

Went back in 2018 and had a great boys trip.

We watched Ice Hockey on the Friday night (Stoczniowiec GdaƄsk) and it was good fun, although if you have a sports fixture booked already you may not need that.

We also went to Sopot twice actually - once at night and it had a good nightlife. We also went during the day and the beach and pier there is lovely - we were fortunate that it was around 16 degrees in early October. I'd definitely suggest making sure you spend some sort of time in Sopot whatever you do.

Second most of the above, WW2 museum is really good and Sopot is a better night out (and a really nice beach which I didn't expect in Poland). You'll have a great time.

We had a trip to Gdynia - a bit more old school Eastern European but a nice bit of waterfront. If you weren't going to the match a stadium tour is ok. I was the only person on mine so I had to do a lot of nodding and trying to think of questions.

I know this sounds ridiculous but don't under any circumstances go to the t1tty bar there. I got away quite lightly but had friends who woke up in their back room the following morning with thousands robbed from them.

I'd recommend Sopot (easy cab from Gdansk) if the weather is good, great beaches, cheap beers, such a nice and underrated place. Also the river in Gdansk does self hire canoeing which is a nice way to get about and dust off the cobwebs if that's your thing. Few nice bars on the river too, its a great place for a stag. Vibey but cost effective. Bunkier was a decent club.

As mentioned, Sopot is a nice beach resort. Gdansk old town is nice but the rest of the city is quite boring imo. Cheap food and drink though so what's not to like?

I can't remember what they call it but some restaurants do bread and dripping as a side dish. A basket of bread and a small pot of very tasty beef fat. Lovely.
