I can completely see the logic.
We took 5k for Coventry, which was Saturday 3pm, and a reasonable price, and only just managed to sell out.
Change that to stupidly-priced tickets, and a Monday night, and 3,000 is probably about right. | |

Likely there will still be empty seats so just move to one of those.
Ticket info didn’t mention general sale after ST holders, presumably due to the lack of time to post the tickets out. So might be sales available on the night at the away city ground ticket office maybe? | | | |

Not seen any announcements on Club website or 'socials' yet, but the sales info has been updated to include a General Sale window from 10am today (Weds).
Probably couldn't find it again if I went looking, but the FA Guidance (maybe Rules) about selling Cup tickets is that they should be sold in blocks, with blocks only made available according to demand. It's designed to simplify the intra-Club returns process and surrounding admin around gate receipt calculation, also to allow a host club to re-draw segregation lines and sell returned allocations as 'home' tickets (Ipswich vs Bristol Rovers for example, where a block of Cobbold was returned and sold as 'home').
The last 'withheld' block (291 seats) was released this morning in time for the 'General Sale', there was also a block (296 seats) released in the 5+ Window, and another (283 seats) on the morning of ST sales Window. [Post edited 26 Feb 9:58]

That block (Y1) actually went on sale during the Season Ticket Holder window, as there were not that many left in X1 at that point. Seems there are only about half of Y1 has sold. The allocation would seem about right.
BTW I think I remember on the bulletin that there would NOT be any tickets available on the gate. |  | | |
