Thank goodness we didn’t sell Wolfie on 18:19 - Mar 8 by TractorWood | Even the upgrades aren't massive upgrades bar Delap and Cajuste. Our summer recruitment was garbage. I also include closing the Philogene deal in January in the same breath. Not Philogene's fault but it was an obvious poor deal for us with red flags everywhere. I'd struggle to see McKenna getting a move to a club with a big budget. I dont see any evidence that he wouldnt p1ss it away again. |
We've bought a lot of talent that can take us on levels over the next few years. Philogene is a real prospect who was outstanding in the champ and is young. He's been here 5 mins. His signing can be judged over a year, 18 months and hopefully longer if he stays. It didn't have the budget to buy ready made Prem quality. We have tried to buy for the future and for increase in value. This season we needed luck with those signings progressing fast or hitting the ground running. We also needed a lot of fortune with Injuries and a bit of luck in game. I think we've had very little luck this season and will fall short. I've got no doubt we will have a better squad in the champ then the one we went up with.

We did have the budget to buy ready made Premier League quality. What we didn't have is the infrastructure to locate it.

Villa effectively pushed Philogene through the door saying he wasn't up to it. He had one season in the championship where he scored 12. I've seen him in the flesh 6/7 times and I agree with Villa, sadly. I'm sure people will say 'he'll rip up the championship'. Any player in world football who costs £21m should be so good it's embarrassing in the championship.

What's slightly embarrassing is Villa basically said he wasn't good enough yet we happily paid more for him than they did in the summer.

The deal was nothing but red flags. Totally avoidable.

Scouting infrastructure is a legit element but it's being built and it will take time. We did back to back promotions and we got to the prem without everything matured for sure. But that's a positive nit a negative.

It's worth bearing in mind that most PL clubs have a Director of Football or Technical Director who oversees player recruitment. I think KMc gets far more input into player recruitment at ITFC than he would at other clubs.
