Cajuste’s “long” throws 12:12 - Mar 9 with 2097 viewsTresBonne

Seriously, who told Jens that he had a good throw in? They’re absolutely terrible, float into the box to be easily cleared and rarely make it past the first corner of the six yard box. The amount of times they get headed away to set the opposition on a counter is ridiculous, can’t understand why we still do it.

Besides that, if you could sum up a game in a season, that was that. Compete enough but don’t find the liiiittle bit extra to win the game, whilst the other team probably do. Ah well, only football

Quite, we don't look even remotely threatening from them, why we persist with them i'm not quite sure.

Every single long throw we’ve had has been won by an opposition player.

Our attacking set pieces are horrific with the exception of one Enciso corner yesterday.

That Philips FK in the last seconds, dear me ffs.

Our short ones aren’t much better whoever’s taking them. I honestly think we must be the worst throw-in takers in the whole football pyramid - every other team manages to throw the ball to a spare man and keep possession but almost all of ours put the receiver in a position where they’re having to challenge for the ball.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Like most of our balls into the box this season though. Which is maybe why we seem so reluctant to put them in!

Seriously though, it is surprising seeing how much success we've had from crosses and set pieces over the last year or two, but I guess as well the defenders we're up against are better.

I think we throw them long - because we don’t have the confidence to take it short and try and play through teams like last season. We are scared (quite rightly) how quick teams break and score so I think we are almost doing it to avoid that chance

In the past, age check here, how many people took the piss out of Tony Pullis’s side, Stoke City, with their long throw in, one Rory Delap, now every team uses them.
Wasn’t football back in the day, the purists were outraged.
Here we are, we haven’t got a long throw in.
Strange how the wheel comes full circle

I feel like we're rubbish at all throw ins. Can't remember what game now, maybe man utd away, but we seemed clueless at where to throw it and sometimes go for a dangerous one that puts us on the back foot.

Think Calvin has being attending the Gwion Edwards corner kick school or the Josh Harrop Free Kick academy.

Without Burgess in the opposition box we look clueless at attacking set pieces.

And then watch the opposition break through the very part of the pitch vacated by the player taking the throw.

Seem to remember a few seasons back, Klopp employed a Scandinavian guy who specialised solely in throw ins because he was so exasperated with Liverpool (particularly Trent Alexander) getting it so consistently wrong.
It’s the old ‘small margins’ thing.

Knudsen's throw ins were very dangerous - for Town. I don;t recall us ever scoring from one, but I do remember us conceding a couple of times from a breakaway after he attempted one.

The issue for me is that our tall players seem far too stationary, expecting the ball to land on their head. That makes it very easy to defend.

The contrast with Maguire was noticeable because he attacked the ball.

And if you attack from further back or out, you can easily adjust to where the ball actually goes.

And then he rocked up at the World Cup and Denmark scored from one in the first minute...
