I first went to Bournemouth away in January 1990 - we lost 3-1 and..... 18:50 - Mar 31 with 1302 viewsMaySixth

Luther Blissett scored a hattrick for them.

Billy The Fish scored for us.

Forrest, Stockwell (D Gregory), Thompson, Humes, Yallop, Linighan, Donowa (Lowe), Dozzell, Wark, Kiwomya, Milton

There was a nationwide ambulance crew strike going on and Labour held a 12 point lead over the Tories

Strange old afternoon that.

Dorset police pulled about a dozen Town fans from the away end in the course of the second half for ten mins or so after Blissett's hat-trick goal.

I wasn't standing close enough to see what was going on or hear what was being said but Blissett was getting a fair bit of jip and gave some back.

The away end was then guarded by police and police dogs until the end of the game.

If they thought we were bad, christ knows what they made of Leeds later that year.

Yes I was very near the offenders - it was a bit of an over-reaction by the police.
Blissett gave our section of the away end the V's after his third - not sure why, nothing was given to him during the game but after that it boiled over.

I was last there when Teddy Bishop scored his first goal for us and Tyrone sprayed water over the home fans from his drinks bottle! Then profusely apologised and pretended it was an accident. Have we played there since then? November 2014.

The away section is still where it is now, the pitch turned 90 degrees when they re-built the stadium out of meccano.

Perhaps Blissett was getting abuse, couple with some racist nonsense, for most of the game? If so, no wonder he wanted to give something back.
I remember when we lost 1-0 at QPR 10 years or so ago & our fans gave Rob Green dog's abuse throughout the 2nd half. When the final whistle went, he batted the ball into our end with a "f~~k you" attitude and I can't say I blamed him.

I was there. It was all fine until Blissett jumped on the fence to taunt the away end right in front of us, a few people went to the front and the cops brought the dogs in.

As someone else has said, Leeds coming down and ripping the town up at the end of that season must have let them know what real hooligans look like.

I was in Bournemouth at a friend's 21st birthday party the weekend of that Leeds match. The party venue, and where we were staying, was a hotel owned by the Union of Communication Workers which was at the time the union for Royal Mail employees. As a result there were loads of Yorkshire posties staying there.
At breakfast on the Sunday morning we got talking to a couple of them, who had managed to get, as a souvenir of their trip onto the pitch, a couple of the number boards used to indicate substitutions.
They said it was pretty chaotic in the ground and in the town afterwards. Thankfully, we'd been well clear of it all at the hotel.

He wasn't, as I recall. It was a pretty low-key away trip where we weren't really in the match and it was a bit of a glum but not hostile away end. We were behind one of those fences with the hooked tops and for some reason rather than celebrate with the Bournemouth fans, when he scored his third goal he made a beeline for us and climbed the fence. All kicked off after that.

It was only my second ever away game. A very confusing afternoon.

I only went to Dean Court 16/8/69 whilst on holiday and saw Bournemouth v Luton in Div3. Score 0-1. Only remember one player, Luton's Malcolm Macdonald who was roundly booed throughout the match! He later joined Newcastle then Arsenal...

the old thing about booing the opposition's best player, I guess. George Best used to routinely get booed at Portman road, for no other reason.

So a 12 point lead is not insurmountable?
