Whatever happened to 'Don't Pay'? 07:49 - Apr 12 with 937 viewsZx1988

I was walking through the city this morning, and saw an old 'Don't Pay' sticker on a lamp post. Probably one of the most effective citizen movements for many many years.

I remember how concerned those in power were - at one point even Ken Bruce was pumping out the scare tactics (if you don't pay you'll face serious consequences) on his morning show.

They got a fairly decent concession, and all but disappeared overnight.

Just think how the current water shambles could be impacted by a similar campaign.

Was it successful? What concession did they get?

The reduced price cap and additional support from October 2022 seemed to coincide with their campaigning. Of course, whether it would have happened anyway is another question.

Either way, it was fairly clear that they had the right people sh**ting themselves over the prospect of mass non-payment.

I definitely think it's worth reviving for water bills. The state of our beaches, rivers and infrastructure is not deserving of dividend payments or ROI for hedge funds and pension schemes.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Especially as the infrastructure is so bad, leaks so common and the sh1t in the rivers thanks to the Tories.

I think that's a really valid point.
