Hamas accused Israel of violating the original deal, according to which there would be a second phase where all the remaining living hostages would be handed over and the war brought to a permanent end.

Since then Israeli attacks have killed more than 1,650 people, the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry says, including 36 strikes that killed only women and children according to the UN human rights office.

They never had any intention of honouring the agreement reached. They were just trying to get hostages out before proceeding with the complete annexation plans. See also, the West Bank.

Netanyahu, personally, has no choice. If the peace process continued, the hardline settler parties would quit, his government fall and there's a good chance he'd end up in prison. Having grasped the snake, he cannot now let go.

Not that bashing the Palestinians is something he doesn't enjoy doing anyway.

I think it's bigger than Netanyahu's legal issues. This war, along with the Trump presidency has presented a unique opportunity to finally annex what remains of historic Palestine and put the two state solution to bed.

It is, but I think that is less Netanyahu's personal approach (like Trump, he is about personal power over ideology), more that of the hardline settlers who want to take the opportunity presented to fulfil their ambitions (and who are riding Netanyahu to achieve that).

I don't believe those ambitions are limited to hardlines settlers though. They've been the long term goal since Ben-Gurion.

Sky News, today, has an in-depth investigation into the murder of the Palestinian paramedics. Anyone still burying their heads in the sand (no sick pun intended) about Israel's tactics, should watch the report. As someone else posted recently, Bvstards!

Exactly, way more important then stopping genocide. Should my mate Julie (previously Julian) ( actually she was at battle of the Beanfield) use the mens or ladies toilet?

Tragic, hardly describes it

At last is perhaps slightly misleading.

I know someone Jewish who has been critical of Israeli action from the outset.

And there's this Holocaust survivor who left the Labour Party because they tried to prevent him speaking at an event to remember the Holocaust.

In relation to the very vocal Board of Deputies it is very much a case of at last.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to dismiss what you said, only trying to say that we tend not to get the full story when it comes to Jewish opinion.

On this point, this is what Michael Rosen said at the 2019 election.

"For clarity’s sake, the Chief Rabbi may “speak for” a majority of Jews in Britain — but he does not “represent” them.

He is the leader of the United Synagogue, which has a congregation of around 40,000. According to the Board of Deputies, there are 284,000 British Jews. Half of us are affiliated to synagogues, half of us are not.

In all the surveys of Jewish opinion, I have never been sure of how the survey of the 142,000 non-religious Jews is done. How do they find us?

One survey created a “panel,” having found secular Jews by focusing on areas where there is a high Jewish population and people having “Jewish names.”

Ahem, ahem — apart from Hebrew and Hebraic names, there are no Jewish names.

Most Jews in this country have German or Polish names (if they — we — are “Ashkanzim”) or Sephardi names (which may be, for example, Italian or Spanish) and/or we have English names.

What’s more, since the arrival of many EU citizens, there are many Germans and Poles who have names that before were considered to be Jewish, like “Meyer” — a standard German name that some Jews have.

The surveys may perhaps be accurate, but this method of polling looks decidedly dodgy. I have challenged this many times on Twitter and no-one has successfully defended it so far."

Yes I remember it well, I was pretty much called a racist due to my position on being supportive of the Palestinian cause once Israel started the annexation campaign. Also I was antisemitic as I dared to say that I thought Israel had over stepped their mark in response to the kidnappings.

Michael Rosen is a man worthy of respect.

It is a shame that this criticism from the Board of Deputies will fall on deaf ears.
