Let’s just hope we have a similar sell on clause as is common.

Chelsea sell to RM in 2 years for £100m, they make £70m and we pocket £10-£15m again?

That’s pretty well protected imo but we won’t know will we?

I hadn’t thought about that. A healthy sell on percentage as part of the contractual 30m release clause would actually make his statement make a lot more sense. Hope you’re right.

I know this conversation has already been had, but the statement from Ashton that the club are 'very well protected' just seems really odd as at the time he made the statement it already looked very likely we were getting relegated, and therefore that statement was going to be shown up as simply not true within a matter of weeks. I'm not criticising the clause itself, it may be that was the only way to get Delap to sign with competition from other clubs, just such a weird thing to say in an interview.

A profit of 70%-80% in year on a player who many at the time knew little about and some were questioning why we bought him seems like a very good profit and well protected. It appears the release clause strategy has been approximately double what we paid. Not a bad option imo.

Poll: At what price would you sell our 32 year old Leading Scorer Murphy this summer?
