Haven't they won European trophies recently?

I find it very odd how they can be successful in Europe but not even come close to challenging for the domestic title.

Because outside of the teams in their top 3's or 4, the depth of the Prem is way stronger than any other European League.

A Fulham or Brighton could easily win the third string comp.

A Villa, Chelsea type would be very very strong in the Europa.

Spurs won the Europa league and last season West Ham won that other thing, pretty much tells its own story really.
