When I was growing up there was a nest on our house and all the other houses nearby, but I haven't seen n one in literally decades. There are still house martins about though so where are they hiding,,?
No former band members live near me. However, if it's the ornithological kind of Housemartin you're asking about then yes. There's a load of them where I live. - or are they Magpies?
I can't tell the difference.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?
No. Our eaves don’t suit, as we’ve never had one here. Used to in previous houses. I haven’t seen many about either - we get very few birds here for some reason despite being close to lots of countryside. There are no cats, but the gardens are all quite small with not a lot of shrubbery, so there’s probably not enough shelter for them.
I do have a half-tamed robin, a couple of fat wood pigeons, occasional rooks and for a couple of years now a green woodpecker occasionally pops in to eat ants from our lawn.

The gardens near you obviously aren't owned by the knights that say "Ni"

Yes. They made the nest about 15 years ago and come back every year. They like houses which face East (where the sun rises) with the overhanging gable roof (so that they and not other bigger birds can swoop up to and down from the nest).
I do wildlife rescue and have a nestling in home care at the moment. gaining 3g a day but a long way to go until release. Not many coming in to the rescue centre but last year we had swifts, swallows and house martins to raise and release.
