Nottingham Forest 3 vs 0 Ipswich, last game of 2017.

Anyone remember that one? I have to admit I'd stepped away during that period as had a young family so only recognised a few players.

Two very soft penalties when viewed with modern eyes

Forest won to survive relegation. Pitch invasion at then end. Think we left with a lot 20 mins to go.

Yep we were awful.

Like Sitters I think I left that game in about the 75th minute.

Yeah I was there, not a great day at the office.

My favourite Forest game was when we beat them 6-0 under Royle.

Yep. That was mid slide towards the depths under Mick. We were slipping down the league over those years after the highs of 14/15.

Tom Lawrence season wasn't it? It basically got to the point that Mick was reliant on signing one technically gifted player on loan who we hoped would win games for us. As soon as they got crocked we were finished. Was Ryan Fraser year before.

If Fraser stayed fit we would have got top 6 that year.

Fraser and Maitland Niles on either side.

Didzy and Murphy up top and Pitman rotating in and out. We had some decent options.

Yeah. He got crocked at QPR away didn't he? I remember him going down and thinking 'that's it then'.

We did have firepower. But looking back football was changing and Mick's whole thing of being hard to beat, keeping it tight then letting Didzy do some magic was at the beginning of being left behind.

Yep especially as Didzy wasn't the picture of health himself.

Think our team most of that season would have had Chambo and Knudsen (a player I never rated) at full backs. Skuse Douglas in midfield and then Sears and AMN on the wings when Fraser went down. Not vasts amounts of creativity there.

Still managed to finish 7th mind. TWTD.

Weirdly, one of my favourite Forest games was a 3-4 defeat at home. Think it might have been one of Royle's early games. Two teams just going all-out attack.

Mad Dog's long throw! 😁 I liked him because he was so committed. Good goals against Nodge...

Yeah it was going forward that was Mick's blindspot in the end. But I'm pretty sure no one else could save saved us as he did when he came in and he made us competitive. 7th wasn't a bad effort. I looked the 15/16 kit too.

He was certainly committed but he made playing football look so very difficult and don't get me started on that long throw. Not the worst player from that era, not even close but just not someone I rated.

That home kit was alright. The away was the first version of the Ipselona kit IIRC which we maybe wore once ?

I think this was the game where Tommy Miller missed his only ever penalty for ITFC.
Only for the ref to ask for it to be retaken and he scored it.

I remember this very clearly as I brought a friend along and his partners brother who were both Derby fans.

Some people might remember one of them getting fairly drunk at half time before going back to the stands and goading the Forest fans before getting kicked out. Think a picture of him was doing the rounds a few days later.

Don't really remember much of the game except we were awful.

Haha. Yeah. I can't remember it being successful even once. But every time we get a throw in we knew the routine.

He did play in a world cup though and I vaguely remember getting grief on here for sharing a wonder goal he scored at his new club when we were on the decline.

You're right about the away kit I think. I just liked the collar on the home one and the stripes. Didn't Pitman have to have a special one made with long sleeves?

Irony was when he played in that World Cup Denmark scored from one of his long throws within the first minute!

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

Sadly I was there. At the time I ran and played in a Sunday night 6 a side team. We had 8 players confirmed for the game that evening so I had about 8 pints thinking I'd just spectate and take a managerial role.

As the day went on 3 of them pulled out so I had to play, during the game I slipped controlling the ball and fell awkwardly badly dislocating my elbow the pain was indescribable and to make matters worse the fools at Hinchingbrooke hospital didn't set it correctly and I had to go back and have an operation a week later. My right arm now only extends halfway.

Blimey. That's a nightmare!!! Sorry to hear. The dark days of the Evans years left marks on all of us but I didn't think it meant physically too!

Always felt the narrative with that team was a little bit skewed and was probably the start of MM starting to become defensive in the media.
Started season with a more open approach with wingers, but we got ripped apart at Reading and MM went back to what he trusted from the previous year, but without the players who actually did it.
Our fixture list gave a false impression too, because in the first half of the season we had all the tough game games with narrow defeats and draws but not many wins, but away we played all of the bottom teams in a row and had a great run of wins.
When that flipped in the second half of the season, we found out we were just bad at home and couldn't beat the poorer teams either, whilst the away form collapsed against better opposition.
It was only winning the last 3 games when everyone was done and on the beach, that got us up to 7th, but in reality we were miles away from play offs.
Our recruitment of wingers didn't help either as don't think AMN was expected to be first choice, but ended up happening because we didn't sign anyone better. And Tommy Oar decided to quit and Fraser got injured.

God that game at Reading was awful. Another reason why I hate that ground.

Yeah, you're right about that side. The sense was that we were never really good enough for play offs even though we finished where we did in the end. Some of what worked in 14/15 was still there (although even that team started faltering in the way into the play offs and in reality was never good enough to win them) but overall we V were beginning to see the squad weaken considerably.

Didn't Tommy Oar say he was homesick and then promptly sign for another club in Europe?

Somewhere there's an AA type group for Mick's spurned wingers. Henshall, Cameron Stewart, etc. all weeping in each other's arms.
