Yup, they love our hosters too. We have some particularly fat ones with a sinister orange tinge in our garden again this year. Utterly pointless, bloated, gorging bast*rds in my book. It’s crying out for a joke about the incumbent American president, but it’s just too obvious, shirley?…

I did read somewhere that advised to take your pot and smear Vaseline around your rim. That’s supposed to stop them. I’ve no idea how. I couldn’t work out what the pot’s got to do with it and it just made walking feel a bit strange. The joys of gardening, eh?

This is crying out for some wise advice from Keno. As far as I understand it, it’s something to do with them being unable to gain sufficient purchase on your greased up stalk. If you spill beer on them as well, they get in a right strop and crawl off to check out the neighbour’s bed. These are vital life lessons that should be taught at school, really.

Our slimy little friends summed up. Slugs help break down decaying organic matter, contributing to nutrient cycling. They also serve as a food source for various garden creatures, including birds and hedgehogs

Decaying my butt! They always go for your best plants. Never the scruffy weeds in the corner. I’m convinced they’re either useless or devious. Or both.

I'm trying to tempt the local slug population on to every plant rather then the weed.. I also like to count how many slimy victims I have in my beer traps of a morning. Suckers
