Top respect to the guy 👏👏👏 [Post edited 14 Jun 16:46]

Purely speculating but I reckon we offered two years and didn't want to commit to three in case we bounce straight back up.

As long as he’s fit, there’s no doubt he’ll be playing each week. They’ve really struggled in the CB department for a few years. I suspect he’s the best CB they’ll have down here now. The question is are they going to be flirting with relegation again? Possibly not now; I think they’re looking stronger potentially than last year with a couple of the new signings so far. But he could still be playing in some pretty poor/meaningless (i.e. mid-table) football matches. Or the short version: I hope he doesn’t regret it, because Swansea have been a bit crap lately, are skint and have on a bit of a bumpy ride on and off the pitch.

Also, Burgess is at his peak and he won't get another opportunity to pick up a good contract as a free agent with a decent signing on fee. Good luck to him, other than when he plays us.

We always admire a player who just wants to play over anything else on 17:41 - Jun 14 with 1464 views | SuffolkPunchFC | I suspect there are two things at play with Burgess's decision. - he wants to play regularly, as first choice - he wanted a 3 year contract I suspect that with our ambition, we only offered 1 year plus a 1 year option after that. TBH, this is what I would have done.

Modric has got involved with the new ownership group, so I suspect Burgess has bought into their plan for the club.

You'll know better than me, but a move to Swansea sounds ok; Good ground. Good training facilities. Ambitious US owners. Cam will also be able to afford a lovely pad on the Gower Peninsula. First team football, with the fat contract and signing on fee, it seems a sensible move.

Precisely. He wants to play at the World Cup and represent his Country and his best chance is to play regularly. One of our big mistakes last season was too many players were selected on the size of their transfer fee, rather than their performance levels. He's probably thinking the same will happen again this season, and he'll have a better chance of playing regularly at Swansea.

We always admire a player who just wants to play over anything else on 17:22 - Jun 15 with 395 views | PrideOfTheEast | He’s 29, chasing a 3 year contract (probably his last of that length) on as much money as he can possibly get - remember he wouldn’t have earned much in football terms until relatively recently. That coupled with a want to play every week to get in a World Cup squad makes it an absolute no brainer for him to leave us, and it’s also a no brainer to go somewhere where he’s guaranteed to be a main man - doubt that would have been the case at some of the clubs mentioned. Good luck to him.

Exactly, he never ducks a challenge but we have a big pool of quality players, so to be a Swan in a smaller pond...
