End Clubs and In-between Clubs 08:34 - Jul 23 with 967 viewsArnoldMoorhen

An interesting article about the German Brentford, Eintracht Frankfurt, developing players and selling them.

“This is what I tell the players: ‘If your development is faster than our development as a club, and I get the money I expect, I will let you go’. This is why so many young talents like to come to Frankfurt, because we know what we have to do to develop them.

“Selling players is part of my job. I am not emotional about it. It’s business.”

Surprising to see a manager saying it out loud but deep down most of us know that’s the case. I said a while ago that Delap and Hutch simply wouldn’t have come here unless we’d agreed to be a stepping stone along their way back to the big 6. Brentford will be just another step along the way.

I got pelters for daring to say it out loud it though!

Did we agree that we would let them use us as a stepping stone at a loss to the club? Or are we only waiting for Transfermarkt to increase their valuation?

We didn’t make a loss on Delap and it sounds like we’ll make a tidy profit on Hutch too, so not sure what point you’re trying to make?

I think my friends at Eintracht Frankfurt would be deeply offended by the comparison with Brentford given their history.
But, yes, they are very good at developing talent and selling it on for big profit.
And in many cases, those players aren’t as successful as they were at Eintracht.
Jovic, Haller, Andre Silva (the other one) and Kolo Muani have all gone for big money and then faded.

Bought Delap for £20 million, sold him for £30 million (checked online to make sure I didn’t remember it wrong). 30% to City so we made £7 million profit. Not bad for a season I’d say.

And the fact he had a release clause suggest that we had agreed to being a stepping stone.
